Description
The use of field-theory and correspondence analysis in media and journalism research is attracting considerable interest within the
international research community. This is evident if we look at the number of citations and references to Bourdieu's concepts and theories
in international scholarly publications, which has been rising, particularly since the publication of "Bourdieu and Field Theory and the
Journalistic Field", edited by Rodney Benson and Erik Neveu (Polity Press 2005). However, the number of empirical studies based on the
theoretical and methodological paradigm that was developed by Bourdieu and his collegues at CSE in Paris, are still limited. Thus, in
addition to further theoretical discussion, systematic reflection concerning for instance the choice of research focus, the relationship
between theory and methodology and the practical incorporation of correspondence analysis in research designs is needed. This seminar
will address such issues by presenting a series of lectures by French and Scandinavian researchers with experience from actual, empirical
research. Participants will include French and Norwegian doctoral students and other researchers, as well as invited presenters.
