PennAccess: Chemistry Laboratories: 1958 Wing
Entrance Information:
231 South 34th Street . Philadelphia . PA . 19104
1. The main entrance to the entire Chemistry Complex is through the 1973 Wing and is reached
by a ramp on the west side of the building leading to level entry doors. There are
elevators located just inside the entrance.
2. There is a second entrance located on the east side of the 1958 Wing next to the loading bay.
This entrance must be approached through the parking lot, and may occasionally be
blocked by improperly parked cars.
3. The 1973 Wing is connected internally to the Vagelos Labs.
Note: The three Chemistry wings are connected on the basement, first and second floors. The
third floor has a locked office in the Cret Wing that restricts access between the 1958
Wing and the 1973 Wing. The elevator must be taken down to the second floor and then
back up again. Every entrance will provide passage through all three buildings and
access to all public areas.
Elevator Information:
• There is a bank of two elevators on the west side of the 1973 Wing which accesses all areas
except a limited area on the third floor (see Note under Entrance Information). The 1958
elevator must be taken to get to room 300 in the 1958 Wing.
• There is one elevator on the east side of the 1958 Wing.
Accessible Restrooms:
• There are accessible restrooms on all floors, except the first, of the 1973 Wing - both men's and
women's. The inner doors to the restrooms are only 27" wide.
Building Information:
• The third floor of the Cret Wing is a private office that is locked. On this level, there is no
passage between the 1973 and the 1958 Wings.
• Room 514 of the 1973 Wing is an auditorium/lecture hall which seats forty- fifty people and is
accessible. There is tablet, arm-chair seating.
