THEIR JOURNEY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS,
in
June
2007,
nine
Charleston,
South
Carolina,
15
firefighters were tragically killed when the roof of a burning
16
furniture store collapsed on them while they were inside searching
17
for victims, and in their memory the first Brotherhood Ride was
18
held in 2008 to commemorate their sacrifice and raise funds for
19
their widows and children; and
20
WHEREAS,
on
September
11,
2001,
a
total
of
411
emergency
21
service workers who responded to the horrific events at the Twin
22
Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City died as they
23
attempted to rescue people and fight fires, with the New York City
24
Fire Department losing 343 firefighters, the New York City Police
25
Department
losing

paramedics from private emergency medical services being killed;

WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville desires to honor and commend

the 40 riders of the 4th Annual Brotherhood Ride 2011 and their 15-
7
member support staff for their selfless dedication to the memory of
8
their fallen comrades as their journey brings them to Jacksonville
9
on August 24, 2011, on the way to their ultimate destination in New
10
York City; and
11
WHEREAS, the City of Jacksonville also desires to commend and
12
thank
the

International Association of Fire Fighters Local #122 for their
14
generosity
