Annexure - I Southeast University Department of Pharmacy Syllabus From January 2011, Spring semester It has been recognized that Pharmaceuticals and other industries in Bangladesh and abroad have the urgent need of potential technical professionals having key qualifications. Southeast University (SEU) has realized its potential capabilities to work in this area of human resource development and thus to contribute in building up a knowledge based society comprising of skilled work force for the industry which is essential for the country in this era of technology. To keep pace with the rapid technological advancement in the industrial sectors there is no alternative to establish a complete industrial QA/QC and other applications oriented laboratory based science education system to produce skilled professionals to meet the current demand. Hence, reforms in the course curriculum and introduction of a state-of-the-art instrumentation laboratory based education in the university are considered to be a must. To achieve the above goal the importance of close and consistent interactions between academic institutions, private and/or public organization, research laboratories and industries have been recognized and the course curriculum has been designed accordingly. Academic Programs The Department of Pharmacy is offering 160 Credit courses in four years at undergraduate level. After completion of required courses the department will offer a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree. The program will cover the area of Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Hospital & Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Physiology & Pathology, Biotechnology & Bimolecular Pharmacy, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Objectives of B. Pharm (Hons.) Program The main objectives of this curriculum are To impart scientific and industrial knowledge on the identification, formulation, preparation, standardization, quality assurance (quality control) and uses of drugs & medicines and effective management of their distribution & sale. To produce skilled manpower to manage the affairs of hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, community pharmacy services, drug administration and other organizations in drug research, marketing, sales and administration.
