No: Date of Issue: Issue: Page: AAT/J 010 31/01/2012 3 2 of 4 Director of Academic Affairs JOB OUTLINE: Implements policies and procedures of MSD relating to development of undergraduate and postgraduate training together with the provision of educational and training facilities at national and international medical faculties. Co-ordinates symposia, scientific conferences, postgraduate revision courses, weekly scientific lectures, postgraduate examinations with directors of clinical departments and heads of clinical divisions and to integrate visits of distinguished leaders in medical and surgical fields. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Director of Medical Administration or (in RKH Chairman of Medical Staff) Subordinate Staff: Assistant Director of AAs & T, Medical, Administrative and secretarial staff in the Department. Essential Collaborative Relationships: Directors, Consultants (Teaching), Clinical Tutors and Saudi Board Co-ordinators of clinical departments together with national and international institutions as directed by the Chairman of Medical Staff/Director of Medical Administration. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: i Abides by the hospital policies, Medical Staff Bylaws and rules and regulations of the medical staff and those specific to the department. ii Promotes continuing medical education through method of instruction, lectures, seminars, journal clubs, grand rounds and computer assisted learning programmes. iii Updates and supervises criteria for continuous evaluation of residents training in liaison with directors of clinical departments/heads of clinical divisions and training supervisors. iv In liaison with directors of clinical departments/heads of clinical divisions, defines priorities for undergraduate teaching of students from medical and dental schools. v Maintains close affiliation with medical faculties of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to implement the educational strategies for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching vi Co-ordinates links with overseas postgraduate deans to promote higher medical education and facilitate training in most advanced medical surgical specialization. No: Date of Issue: Issue: Page: AAT/J 010 31/01/2012 3 3 of 4 Director of Academic Affairs vii Co-ordinates visits of professors, senior consultants and postgraduate tutors for the planned academic activities, postgraduate courses, symposia and recent advances in medical and surgical specialties. viii In fulfillment of above responsibilities, the post holder will prepare annual performance reports of all the academic activities of the department and present to the Director of Medical Administration (In RKH; to the Chairman of Medical Staff) and Programme/Hospital Director. ix Co-ordinates postgraduate examinations of Saudi Council for Health Specialties and Fellowship Examinations of international colleges for which the hospital may become established center in the future. x To monitor, in coordination with the clinical tutors, progress of professional achievement of all junior doctors enrolled in the hospital Residency Training Programmes as well as seconded to overseas training establishments for higher professional training. xi To organise hospital lectures, resident case presentations, medical grand rounds, symposia, postgraduate courses, journal clubs and special club meetings. xii Provides professional counseling to junior doctors seeking enrollment for higher specialization and for approved postgraduate training posts. xiii Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regards to continuing medical education. xiv Responsible for ensuring that the cost of the postgraduate training and continuing medical education is within the budgeted financial resources of the hospital. xv The jobholder, although primarily responsible for the above duties, will perform clinical activities in his/her field of medical professional in accordance with his/her professional standing. xvi Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.
