Position Description
DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Position: Development Associate
Reports to: Director of Strategy and Development
Status: Exempt Full-time
Supervises: N/A
The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is a leading not-for-profit
organization assisting women, children, and families in the New York tri-state area to recognize
and eliminate relationship violence and abuse. Our counseling, education, advocacy and
support services help individuals empower themselves to build safe and healthy relationships
based on mutual respect, compassion and dignity. Each year, over 2,500 individuals benefit
from one or more services that we provide. All our services are culturally sensitive, linguistically
appropriate, and free. KAFSC has a dynamic team of 55 staff (20 full-time and 35 part-time)
and an annual operating budget of nearly 2 million dollars [www.kafsc.org].
KAFSC seeks a full-time Development Associate with excellent administrative skills to
coordinate the annual benefit gala and support fundraising, development and general
operation of the organization under direction of the Director of Strategy and Development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Gala Administration (45%)
 Working with Gala Leadership Team (Gala Co-Chairs, Board Chair, Executive Director & Director of
Strategy & Development, Special Events & Communication Coordinator) for successful planning
and execution of its Annual Gala
 Develop and update timeline & budget
 Coordinate gala committee meetings and ensure that all the follow-ups are in place
 Coordinate details with venues – menu, A/V, table settings etc.
 Manage outside vendors including florists, entertainers, printers etc.
 Coordinate and follow up with Sponsorship and Donations with the Director
 Coordinate all the details with speakers, entertainment, honorees, and sponsors
 Manage RSVPs and registration process working with external vendor
 Recruit and train volunteers and staff for the Gala and other special events
 Develop Run of Show with the Director and Gala Team including emcee script
 Communicate with the Director on Silent/Live Auction and Raffle progress and ensure that all
auction and raffles are in place and followed up
 On-site Management day of the event with Development Director and Special Events Coordinator
 Coordinate details and logistics for Pre-gala events and the After-party
 Provide wrap-up report including key learning, data charts, and financials for the Gala Leadership
Team
 Spearhead timely post-gala follow ups and donation receipts and thank yous.
Donors & Special Campaign Management (30%)
 Maintain and develop relationships with new or existing funders and individual donors
under the Director’s direction
 Make sure all donations are accurately recorded and acknowledgements are accurately
sent out in a timely fashion
 Manage and update our donor database, DonorPerfect, on a regular basis
 Produce donor reports as needed
 Manage donor retention for Chinjung Monthly Giving Campaigns and coordinate Annual Appeal with
the Director

Operation/IT & Administration (20%)
 Act as a key staff liaison with IT consultants to troubleshoot any IT issues timely
 Manage outside vendors and business accounts
 Assist supervisor and Executive Director with various administrative tasks
 Attend and assist with Fundraising/Donor events throughout the year
 Manage accurate Time Records for each staff (Daily, Monthly, and PTO request)
 Keep our staff and phone directory up-to-date
Agency-Wide Mission Support (5%)
 Support and actively participate in agency-wide outreach activities
 Actively participate in monthly leadership collaborative meetings, annual board/staff retreat, and
other meetings as appropriate
 Actively participate in bi-weekly staff team meetings
QUALIFICATIONS
 4-year degree in Communication, PR/Marketing, Business Administration, Public
Administration, Sociology, or related field
 Detail-oriented, extremely organized and adept administrative skills
 Ability to think creatively, problem-solve and prioritize multiple tasks
 High Proficiency in using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher)
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
 Proficiency in the Korean language is a plus, but not required
 Strong commitment to the Asian American Community and KAFSC’s mission
 Maturity, collaborative attitude, and positive attitude
