The contest "Ellington composers' aims to create new works and support the creation. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION The contest "Ellington Composers 2013" aims to honor new works not yet created on stage or recording, nor having been presented in other competitions. The competition is open to composers of all nationalities, no age limit, members of the society of authors of their choice. Contest entry is free. After an previous selection, the three winning works will be interpreted for the very first time by Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra on sunday september 29th during the “Bal Swing” of Provins Duke Festival, in Sainte Colombes France(77). Prizes will be awarded at the end of interpretations. THE WORK The subject of the contest "Ellington Composers 2013" is related to Ellington’s dance approach, for a 15 musician jazz big band using the basic compositional features of Duke Ellington, including the spirit of Blues, the relationship to dance, "Ellington effect" orchestration, innovation by juxtaposition of simple elements, balance writing / improvisation of the soloist ... The orchestration is as follows: 1st alto sax (Bb clarinet 2 possible), 2nd alto sax (Bb Clarinet 1 possible), 1st tenor sax (Bb clarinet 3 and flute possible), 2nd tenor sax, baritone sax (Bb clarinet 4 possible), 3 trombones, 4 trumpets, piano, bass, drums. The work will last 3 to 5 minutes, and may be directed by the composers in concert if they wish. The score must be written electronically, perfectly legible, format Finale, Sibelius and other software commonly used. REGISTRATION The registration deadline is July 30, 2013, date of the postmark being authoritative. CONDUCT A selection committee composed of three persons will meet before August 30, 2013 to make a preselection of five works. The finalists will be notified composers from 1 September 2013 and will be asked to address individual scores (pdf) before September 10, 2013. The five finalist works will be performed between 15 and 20 September 2013, in private rehearsal by Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra, in front of a jury of five personalities who will select the three winning works. The three winning works will be performed in world premiere on sunday september 29th during the “Bal Swing” of Provins Duke Festival, in Sainte Colombes France(77). The jury reserves the right to cumulate prizes. Prizes can not be divided. MUSIC PUBLISHING A music publishing contract can be presented to composers (l'Agence Musicale Editions), with the understanding that they will not take action if they so wish. JURY The Duke Festival sovereignly appoints members of the Jury of the contest "Ellington Composers 2013". Their number is 5. They are chosen for their expertise in the music world, including a distinguished member of “ La Maison du Duke” and conductor Laurent Mignard, regardless of any racial, ideological, political or linguistic consideration. Jury decisions are final. The very fact of entering the contest, each contestant agrees to accept and not challenge them. RIGHTS Each winning composer will get a recording for archival purposes, and shall refrain from ensuring operation The winning work remains the full property of the author who takes personally, in writing, the responsibility that it can be performed and broadcast, free of all duties (with the exception of copyright and editor) , especially when performing the world premiere September 29, 2013 in Provins. Shipments will not be returned to sender.
