NUMBER ONE SPORTS BAR HAS CLEANER AIR FROM HONEYWELL
McDuffy’s Sports Bar is Arizona’s First Honeywell Clean Air Facility
TEMPE, Arizona – September 14, 2000 – McDuffy’s Sports Bar is the first sports bar in
Arizona to be designated a Honeywell Clean Air Facility*. The bar, located in Tempe, wanted to
provide cleaner indoor air for their patrons by cutting down the smoke and other contaminants in
the air.
Roger Eagan, a board member of the Arizona Restaurant Association, understands the
importance of clean air for the comfort and enjoyment of both customers and employees. He
especially wanted to provide a cleaner atmosphere for his patrons.
“We’re making a major
commitment in trying to satisfy and safeguard our entire clientele, both smoking and non-smoking,”
Eagan commented.
Installing the Right Product
Southland Filtration in Phoenix, an authorized Honeywell Full Service Distributor (FSD),
conducted an audit of McDuffy’s and recommended the proper type and size of air cleaners
required to provide the cleanest air possible. The recommendations are based in part on current
American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards.
(ASHRAE is the leading technical organization, which sets standards for indoor air quality.)
After analyzing the bar’s needs, Southland Filtration installed the proper number and model
of Honeywell air cleaners. The Honeywell ceiling mounted air cleaners combine highly efficient
particle and gas filtration with a Coanda air flow pattern to offer one of the most efficient
commercial air cleaners available.

As the air cleaners pull in dirty air from below, the prefilter traps larger airborne particles
while the remaining fine particles are filtered through a hospital-grade filter that is manufactured to
be 95% efficient in removing airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns from the air passing through
the filter. The cleaned air is redistributed out of the sides of the air cleaner. This forces the uncleaned air back to the middle of the space being treated, where the air is again drawn up from
below the air cleaner and the process is repeated. The process is known as Coanda airflow and may
reduce the amount of outdoor air that needs to be brought in and conditioned. This makes
Honeywell air cleaners cost effective in providing improved indoor air quality and they are ideal for
the air cleaning needs of bars and restaurants.
By making this commitment to cleaner air, McDuffy’s now qualifies for the Honeywell
Clean Air Facility Program (HCAF), which assists businesses in marketing their facilities as “clean
air establishments.” To qualify, commercial businesses must install and properly maintain the type
and quantity of air cleaners required to improve indoor air quality according to Honeywell and
ASHRAE specifications.
The Results
Roger has owned McDuffy’s for 12 years, and is amazed at the difference.
Regular
customers, smoking and non-smoking alike, have noted that the place has a fresher feel about it and
the staff thoroughly enjoys working in a cleaner indoor air environment.
Roger chose Honeywell commercial air cleaners for McDuffy’s, which is considered a
