THE 2011 LEADER OF THE YEAR HONOREES: Elliot Borkson, P.A. Elliot has built an impressive reputation in the South Florida legal community as a prominent tax attorney and CPA. A founding board member of BPHI (Broward Partnership for the Homeless), he remains a dedicated board member 13 years later and in 2008 received BPHI’s most prestigious honor the James J. Blosser Community Trusteeship Award. Elliot has also served on the board of directors for Kids In Distress, the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish National Fund, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the Children’s Services Council and the Broward County Charter Review Commission. Elliot is a dedicated husband and father of four. Kathy Eggleston, Avenue Executive Kathy is currently the managing partner of Avenue Executive and has focused her 25 year career in corporate communications and philanthropy. Her programs and organizations have received numerous awards, including “Best Companies to Work for in America” list in Fortune Magazine. Kathy has served in multiple volunteer capacities for both Leadership Broward and Leadership Florida, and she currently serves on the boards of the Community Foundation of Broward and the Young Entrepreneur’s Council of Nova Southeastern University’s Huizenga School of Business. Gordon W. Latz, Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation Gordon presently serves as the Vice President – Grants for the Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation and is most notably known in the South Florida community as a popular auctioneer having conducted over 1,000 auctions for over 100 organizations helping to raise over $100 million dollars. Recently, Gordon was appointed to the South Florida Leadership Counsel of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is also a dedicated member of the Anderson Assembly. Gordon has received a number of awards including “One of Twenty Five” by Women in Distress’ 25 th Anniversary and having the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Mayor, Jim Naugle proclaim March 29, 2003 as “Gordon Latz Day” in the city. Gordon has two children and recently became a new grandfather. Senator George Lemieux, Esq., Gunster Senator LeMieux has served as Florida’s Deputy Attorney General, as chief of staff to the Governor, helping to oversee all state agencies and operations and while serving as Florida’s 34th United States Senator, Senator LeMieux was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Commerce Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging. Bob Swindell, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance As President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Bob Swindell is the leader of Broward County’s official public/private partnership for economic development. A native of Broward County, Bob is a LBF Class V graduate and currently serves on several executive boards including, NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association), SFTA (South Florida Technology Alliance), Workforce One and he is the Chairman of the EDCA (Enterprise Development Corporation). In addition, Bob also serves on advisory boards for the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Plantation and Oakland Park. Barbara-Ann Weinstein, Family Central Dr. Barbara Weinstein is the CEO of Family Central. She has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career such as, the American Diabetes Woman of Valor Award, the Child Advocate Heart Award, Broward County Humanitarian of the Year, Silver Medallion Award Recipient from The National Conference for Community and Justice and many more.
