Year 4 - Unit 3 – Multigrade -
Discoveries
1. Make a DIORAMA,
WALL MURAL, or
CARTOON DRAWING of a hurricane, tornado, tsunami, flood, or earthquake. Cartoon should have 12 boxes.
Diorama, cartoon, and mural should show results of the natural disaster.
2. Write a fictional story, journal, poem, or song about being in a natural disaster such as hurricane, earthquake, etc. Use examples of anthropomorphism in your work. Story/journal should be 3 pages; poem or song should have 6 verses of 4 lines each.
3. Research and list 10 books and/or stories where anthropomorphism is used. Summarize each book or story and tell how anthropomorphism was used.
Illustrate 5 of them for extra credit.
4. Research 3 discoveries that changed the world . Tell the positive as well as the negative aspects of each.
Present on a poster or
PowerPoint using illustrations
– either hand-drawn or printed.
Extra credit for handdrawn. Ex. Atomic bomb
7. Write an outline for a sequel to Abel’s Island and write the first 3 pages to the sequel.
Illustrate your story.
5. Research 2 real life disasters in the world.
Find the 5 Ws and H about each. Present in a
PowerPoint with pictures, animation, and sound appropriate to the research. Use numeric facts in your 5Ws and H such as dates, lives lost,
$$ property damage.

Build a watercraft that would support the weight of a mouse or something comparable.
Demonstrate it in water and explain your creation.
6. Write a short skit or puppet show from several scenes in the book Ab el’s Island
. Make your puppets by hand for puppet show; use costumes and props for your skit. Each should be at least 5 minutes long.
9. Research 2 archeological discoveries.
Compare and contrast them in a
Venn Diagram or T-chart using the 5Ws and H.
Use pictures
– either hand-drawn or computer printed to illustrate.
