Rose Bruford College Job Description POST TITLE: Programme REFERENCE: RBC265.15 AREA OF WORK: Director for BA (Hons) Acting School of Performance Pay band: 8 DATE: May 2015 HOURS: Up to 36 teaching weeks, plus 2 weeks administration and 5.0 weeks research and scholarly activity IF FIXED TERM CONTRACT, STATE DURATION: IMMEDIATE LINE MANAGER: Head of School of Performance DESIGNATION OF ANY STAFF LINE MANAGED BY THE POST HOLDER: Managing a Programme team of seven permanent members of staff all of whom have particular coordination responsibilities relating to specific student year groups (levels 4, 5 and 6) and subject areas (Acting, Contextual Studies, Movement and Voice). In addition the Programme has a team of part-time tutors and external directors and teachers. JOB PURPOSE: The Programme Director for Acting will take responsibility for the artistic and academic management of the College’s BA (Hons) Acting programme. S/he will offer direction and leadership to academic colleagues and students to facilitate learning in and through the high quality training programmes offered by the College. S/he will play a key role in developing and managing innovative and relevant learning, teaching and assessment methods and encourage curriculum development, research, consultancy and collaborative activities where appropriate. S/he will, under the direction of the Head of School, collaborate with other academic members of staff to develop initiatives and contribute to the planning, validation and delivery of new programmes of study and other educational and training strategies. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that his/her areas of responsibility fulfil the strategic objectives of the College and other corporate policies as determined by Senior Management and work with recruitment and admissions to meet BA (Hons) Acting recruitment targets. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Management of the Programme team. Line-managing full time, part-time and fractional and hourly paid members of staff teaching on the Acting degree including, where relevant, management of staff deployment, staff leave and annual performance reviews. Ensuring high quality professional input on the Programme. Chairing regular team meetings (currently held fortnightly), facilitating team communication, identifying staff development needs and responding to these, planning staff and student activities. Understanding and issuing appropriate staff contracts. Working closely with the Programme Director for BA (Hons) Actor Musicianship and coordinating shared modules. Supporting the maintenance of academic staff members’ continued engagement with research and scholarly activity. Organisation and Management of the BA (Hons) Acting Programme. Planning the annual academic programme and timetables including delivery of content, timetable, schedules and the planning of all resources and academic assessments. Identifying significant resource issues and ensuring that these are referred to the Head of School as appropriate. Taking overall budgetary responsibility for the Programme in compliance with the Financial Regulations of the College. Chairing the Acting Programme Committee, currently held twice a year. Ensuring that the Programme is effectively organised and delivered. In consultation with the Quality Office, arranging for the nomination of external examiners. Undertaking the production of responses to external examiners’ reports, in consultation with the Quality Office. Engaging with the External Examiner for the Programme. Ensuring that, where appropriate, students’ mitigating circumstances are reported to the relevant College committee. Management of the students on the BA (Hons) Acting Programme. Ensuring that students receive an appropriate induction at each of the levels of the Programme. Reviewing student attendance and performance during the academic year. Deciding whether to allow students to suspend their studies. Conducting exit interviews with any students leaving the Programme. Implementing appropriate College procedures relating to students with unsatisfactory progress. Dealing as appropriate, and as outlined in the College’s policies and procedures, with student complaints. Recruitment auditions and admissions. Working with the Marketing Department on relevant programme-related marketing materials. Coordinating with admissions staff on recruitment events, open days and UK and International auditions. Coordinating with admissions staff auditioning over 2500 applications, Developing and applying an appropriate recruitment strategy for the programme, with the support of the Student Recruitment Manager. Planning, design and delivery of the Programme. Contributing to teaching/directing on the Programme. Conducting innovation and development in teaching and learning methodologies including developing relationships with other programmes, international relations, and ensuring ongoing revision of teaching methodologies in order to ensure the continuing currency of the provision. Ensuring that the undergraduate provision is of the highest quality and meets all external requirements. Managing all programme-related activities, and ensuring the development and updating of the Programme and its documentation. Developing the Programme in line with changes in (amongst other aspects) future funding, teaching and learning practices (including new technologies), practice-based research, needs of the market, and professional and academic developments. Using employment information to assist in developing the programme. Communicating effectively with tutors and students. Undertaking research and scholarly activity relating to the academic content of the Programme. Quality, Quality Assurance of Academic and other student activities. Liaising on programme-related quality issues with the Quality Office. Incorporating all College policies and procedures into the delivery and practice of the Programme. Managing programme development and change, adhering to QAA codes of practice and, where appropriate, validating University regulations and DramaUK guidelines. Managing the overall quality of the Programme, including incorporation of College policies and practices on Quality Assurance, meeting external regulation and funding requirements, preparation and compliance with all external inspection and audits, preparation and maintenance of all materials/documentation for internal review procedures, accreditation and validation purposes. Leading the Programme’s annual monitoring process, which involves reporting and analysing inputs from students, academic staff and external examiners, together with institutional statistical data relating to the number of applications to the Programme; acceptances and UCAS tariff points; academic progression; student achievement and graduate employment. Developing and implementing an action plan associated with the annual monitoring report. Producing relevant programme documentation for students’ use. Collaboration with internal and external bodies. Working alongside internal departments to plan and implement appropriate marketing and recruitment strategies for the Programme. Developing and managing collaborative links with external organisations and individuals including companies, directors, theatres, agents, academic institutions and industries. Keeping abreast of contemporary practice and acting as ambassador for the college in the profession. Maintaining close working relationships between Acting and Actor Musicianship and other programmes specifically programmes within the School of Design Management and Technical Arts.
