Question
What type of paper towel is the most absorbent?
Research (internet, books, magazines, people
etc.)
Mum & Dad : there are lots of different paper towel. My
mum said she thinks Bounty is the best brand.
Internet: There are many types of paper towel. Paper towels
were invented by Arthur Scott in Philadelphia, USA, in around
1900 and from humble beginnings have become a billion
dollar industry.
Paper towels are often made from recycled paper, requiring
fewer trees being cut down and using up to 50% less energy.

Materials

At least four brands of absorbent paper towel

A stopwatch

A glass

A measuring jug

A funnel
Procedure
1. Fill the glass up with exactly 200 ml of water
2. Take a sheet of the first brand of towel.
3. Fold and dip the towel into the water, start the
stopwatch.
4. After 20 seconds, remove the towel from the glass and
squeeze as much water as you can out of the towel in to
the measuring jug using the funnel. Write down how
much water was squeezed out.
5. Repeat 5 times for each brand and write the results in
the data table. You must make sure that each sheet is
folded in exactly the same way for the experiment to be
constant and correct.
6. Write down the results for each brand.
Results
Conclusion
My hypothesis was that Bounty paper towel would be the most
absorbent.
The results indicate that my hypothesis should be rejected
because sparkle paper towel was the most absorbent out of the
four test groups.
If I were to conduct this project again I would use more test
groups and I would use different test groups to see if there are
paper towels that are more absorbent than Sparkle paper
towel.
