Due December 1
Return to State FFA Office
(Revised November, 2008)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECORDING AUDITION ON AUDIOCASSETTE TAPE OR CD-R
1. This recorded audition is a REQUIREMENT for membership in the State FFA Chorus.
2. A cassette recorder with a built in microphone is adequate. Higher quality of tape recorders helps show
your true sound. Recording onto a CD-R is also acceptable. Do NOT record onto a CD-RW.
3. The cassette tape or CD quality is important. It is essential that we be able to play the cassette or CD once
you have recorded it. For this reason, we suggest you use a new, high quality cassette or CD-R to avoid
any mechanical or playback difficulties. If tape or CD malfunctions, you will not be considered for the
chorus. Place tape or CD in an appropriate case clearly labeled with the students’ names on the case as
well as on the tape or CD.
4. If you are using a cassette tape, each singer must have their own individual cassette. (One audition per
tape.) Start recording on side one of the cassette. Print student’s name and chapter on side one of the
label of the cassette tape and the cassette tape case. Be sure student’s full name and address are on the
student’s application.
5. If you are recording onto a CD-R, all FFA members from your school auditioning for the same voice part
may be recorded onto one CD. (A separate CD for Soprano I, Soprano II, etc.) Print each student’s name,
chapter and track # on the label of the CD-R and the CD case. Be sure students’ full names and
addresses are on their applications.
6. At the very beginning of the recording, slowly announce your name, chapter and voice part (soprano I,
soprano II, alto I, alto II, tenor I, tenor II, bass I, bass II).
7. Sing the following scale unaccompanied, at tempo 68 beats per minute, in the appropriate octave.
8. Sing “America” (My Country ‘Tis of Thee), unaccompanied on the following pitches:
Soprano: A-flat above middle C
Alto: F above middle C
Tenor: G below middle C
Bass: E-flat below middle C
It should be sung expressively from beginning to end, one verse only
