It was a mostly sunny afternoon, with light winds at Frank Dobie High School where Dobie won the coin toss and elected to receive. The Falcons’ Max Fender (#84) started the game with the kick off that was returned to the Falcons’ 35 yard line where the tackle was made by the kicker. Dobie then gained 5 yards on a run before being tackled by Preston Tunello (#34), Austin Orr (#67), and Colton Moses (#42). On the next play, Kenny Henderson (#24) made the tackle, but not before the Horns picked up the 1st down. The Horns got another 1st down with a quarterback run that was stopped by Tung Le (#20) and Preston Tunello. Then the Horns had an illegal procedure called on them, so they were at a 1st and 15, giving the Falcon defense a mental lift. The defense stopped the next run for a minimal gain (Preston Tunello and Ben Ainsworth [#73] on the tackle). The next run up the middle met a lot of resistance with virtually no gain. The Horns’ quarterback kept the ball on the next run and was stopped by Tung Le and Ben Ainsworth. On the 4th down play, the Falcon defense held them with Chase Efird (#27) on the tackle. Falcons take over on downs. Clear Lake started with a toss to Justin Jordan (#22) on the left for no gain. Then the quarterback, Michael Zienty (#12) fumbled the snap, but recovered the ball. A defensive penalty on an incomplete pass play gave the Falcons a 1st down at the 15 yard line. Running an option, the QB tosses the ball well into the play to Tung Le who gained 20 yards to the 35 yard line. Then Michael Cano (#31) gained 3 yards up the middle, followed by another 3 yard gain by Tung Le on the right side. The Falcons then tried to get the Horns to jump off-side, but that didn’t work. Falcons called a time-out. Ending the 1st Quarter, the Falcons ran a toss to the left side for a loss of 5 yards. The Falcons started the 2nd Quarter punting to the Dobie 34, with a return to their own 45; however, a penalty on the return brought it back to the 25 yard line. A run up the middle was stopped by Matt Twardowski (#77), but not before giving up a 1st down. Then Jerry Surber (#43) dragged down the runner after another 1st down was given up. This was followed by a QB keeper on the right, which only got them a couple of yards before Colton Moses made the stop. The next run was up the middle, which met a lot of resistance from Matt Twardowski, Avery Garcia (#62), and Ben Ainsworth. On the next play, Rance Wood (#9) made the stop, but the Horns earned another 1st down. Then the big play came; a reverse caught the Falcon defense off guard as they gave up a touchdown. The Horns converted the extra point for 2 and took an 8-0 lead. After taking the kick-off and returning the ball for 17 yards, the play was called back for holding on the Falcons. So, the Falcons started with the ball on our own 25 yard line, where our only offensive play was a fumble and Dobie recovering. An illegal procedure call backed them up 5 yards, then their QB kept the ball and ran around the right side but fumbled the ball during the tackle, and Matt Twardowski recovered the ball for the Falcons on our own 20 yard line. The Falcons mounted an offensive drive starting with a pass to Michael Cano for 5 yards, then a long pass to Rance Wood. A run by Michael Cano up the middle gained them another 1st down. Then a long pass to Kenny Henderson took them all the way down to Dobie’s 20 yard line. However, Kenny was injured on the play. When play resumed, Micheal Cano ran up the middle for 10 yards, followed by a pitch to Justin Jordan on the left side, where he was tackled out of bounds at the 4 yard line. A 2 yard run up the middle by Michael Cano made the Falcons call a time-out. The Falcons returned to the field and Michael Cano ran it in for the touchdown. The QB keeper around the left failed to convert the extra point. Dobie leads the game 8-6, and that ends the 1st half. During halftime, the ambulance came, and Kenny Henderson was taken to the hospital, possibly with a broken bone. After the halftime entertainment (people talking to other people), the game resumed with Dobie kicking off to Justin Jordan, who was stripped of the ball. On the next play, Dobie’s running back broke through several would-be tackles and scored a touchdown. A big hit by Jerry Surber kept their QB from converting the extra point. Dobie leads 146. Dobie kicked off to ……(#15) who returned the ball for 10 yards to our own 25 yard line. Confusion on Dobie’s part caused them to call a time-out. When play resumed, Tung Le gained 5 yards up the middle, followed by a good run up the right side to the 43 yard line and a 1st down. A pass to Jerry Surber was incomplete with the double coverage. Then Preston Tunello ran it up the middle for a short gain of 3 yards. However, the QB fumbled the snap, and recovered it for a 2 yard loss, forcing the Falcons to punt the ball away. With the defense back on the field, Dobie gained 30 yards before Rance Wood made the tackle. With Matt Tawdorski nearly sacking the QB, the pass was nearly intercepted by Chase Efird. On the next play, Dobie earned a 1st down before Colton Moses made the tackle. Then Colton stopped the QB for a 3 yard loss. However, on the very next play, the Falcons gave up a touchdown with the QB running a bootleg around the left side. Dobie had to spend a time-out on the extra point attempt, which failed to produce points as Matt Tawdorski and Rance Wood made the stop. Clear Lake started their next drive with a kickoff return of no yards, followed by Justin Jordan running up the left side for 3 yards. However, an illegal procedure call on the next play backed them up 5 yards. The pass play was broken up, and then Preston Tunello ran for 5 yards up the left side before the 3rd Quarter came to an end. The Falcons started the 4th Quarter punting to Dobie, where the receiver was downed immediately. The Falcon defense then went to work, gang tackling (Austin Orr [#67], Charles Campise [#50] and Tre Webb [93]) the runner for a 3 yard gain. Dobie committed an illegal procedure penalty backing them up 5 yards. On the next play, Jerry Surber had a touchdown-saving tackle, giving Dobie a 1st down on Clear Lake’s 20 yard line. During a QB scramble, Austin Orr nearly got him, but then Colton Moses finally brought him down for a 5 yard loss. The next play gained minimal yardage as Rance Wood tripped up the runner. Then Dobie tried the reverse again, but only gained 9 yards as Jerry Surber made the tackle. The Falcons held on the 4th down conversion attempt, taking possession of the ball. Taking over, the Falcon’s QB, Michael Zienty kept the ball running around the right side for 6 yards. He followed that play with another keeper around the left side for a 1st down out to the 25-yard line. On the next play, however, the pass was intercepted at the 37yard line, as Dobie took over possession. Dobie ran out the clock with a few running plays, with Michael Cano, Joshua McMillan (#8), Chase Efird and Brody Thomas (#97) having tackles. Final score: Falcons 6 Dobie 20
