Climate and Weather
CLIMATE: The weather averaged over a long period of time.
WEATHER: It´s the whole of temperature, precipations and
wind at a given time and place.
TEMPERATURE: How warm or cold the air is. It
can be high, medium or low.
PRECIPITATION: Rain or snow that falls on an area.
WIND: Blowing air outside.
The climate changes depending on the season of the year we are.
SPRING: It´s from 21st March to 21st June. The temperature is warm.
SUMMER: It´s from 21st June to 23rd September. The temperature is
hotter than in spring. In this season days are longer than nights.
AUTUMN: It´s from 23rd September to 21st December. The
temperature is warm too.
WINTER: It´s from 21st December to 21st March. The temperature is
cold. In this season days are shorter than nights.
FACTORS AFFECTING CLIMATE
There are many different factors that affect climate. The most
important factors are:
Distance from the Sea
The sea affects the climate of a place. Coastal areas are cooler and
wetter than inland areas. Clouds form when warm air from inland meets
cool air from the sea.
Proximity to the Equator (Latitude)
The proximity to the equator affects the climate of a place. The
equator receives more sunlight than anywhere else on earth. This is due
to its position in relation to the sun. The Equator is hotter because the
sun has less area to heat. It’s cooler at the north and south poles as
the sun has more area to heat up.
Altitude
The altitude of a place is the height of this place in respect to the
sea. A higher the altitude, the lower the temperature.
