Please be aware that we are about to begin the process of transitioning your 8th grade student to high school. We strongly encourage you to be an active participant throughout this process. IMPORTANT DATES: Wednesday, January 7th o Mr. Hanna, Principal of the Vocational Technical Education Program, will come to PCIS to present our 7th and 8th grade students with information about the Tech Studies Program. Wednesday, January 7th (through Friday, February 13th) o Students interested in applying to the Technical Studies Program MUST submit the parent portion of the student application packet, signed by a parent, to their guidance counselor before February 13th. Packets are available at the guidance offices. Students will be notified of their acceptance status in early March. Tuesday, January 13th (snow date of Jan 15th) o Beginning at 7:00 in the PCIS cafeteria, the guidance staff will be hosting an informational session for parents during which the high school transition process will be explained. Information regarding districting, teacher recommendations, the high school course book, elective course selection, high school graduation requirements, and the Technical Studies Program and its application process will be shared. Additional presentations regarding Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences Pathway (a new program being created at the high schools for the 15/16 school year) and Project Contemporary Competitiveness (PCC) Advanced Studies Program (a summer opportunity available to 8th grade students) will be made by Central Office staff. Monday, January 26th (snow date of Jan 29th) o Tuesday, February 3rd (snow date of Feb 5th) o Parents of students intending to go to Plymouth South High School are invited to attend an informational session during which PSHS’s academic and extracurricular offerings will be showcased. This program will begin at 7:00 pm at PSHS. Throughout March o Guidance Counselors will be making classroom presentations to 8th grade students and sharing information regarding the high school transition process. Thursday, February 26th (no snow date) o Parents of students intending to go to Plymouth North High School are invited to attend an informational session during which PNHS’s academic, Tech, and extracurricular offerings will be showcased. This program will begin at 6:30 pm at PNHS. The week of February 23rd o PCIS 8th grade students will be attending the Tech Expo at Plymouth South High School during the school day with their 8th grade teachers and guidance counselor. Parents are welcome to attend in the evening from 6 - 8 pm in the PSHS gymnasium. The Tech Expo is an opportunity to interact with the staff and students from each of the different tech programs. The tech programs that are offered at both PNHS and PSHS will be featured at this event. Students will meet individually with their guidance counselor to review teacher recommendations for 9th grade academic placements, and elective course offerings. Students will leave this meeting with a Course Recommendation / Request Sheet that NEEDS to be signed and returned. Wednesday, April 1st o Course request / recommendation paperwork requiring a parent signature must be completed and returned to your child’s guidance counselor to ensure proper high school program placement.
