Lakeview Heights Tennis Club Annual General Meeting held on Sunday October 3rd, 2010 at 12.30 p.m. Meeting was held at the Clubhouse on Anders Road. Bryan Lakusta/Wayne Harmon Proposal was made to accept the minutes of the 2009 Annual General Meeting as read. Shenah Mochenski/Jon Grass President’s Update Tony welcomed all tennis members. The transition of authority has passed from Lakeview Heights Irrigation to District of West Kelowna. Currently in discussion with DWK about the eight courts and their understanding of availability of one court for public play during club events. The club position is that it needs all eight courts during club events. They are currently reviewing the rate of rent of the clubhouse. A question was asked about the title of the property. The title has been changed to be one piece of property that includes the adjacent soccer field as well as the ball hockey court, the clubhouse and surrounding parking lot. The first meeting of the LVHT executive will be in November. The beverage fridge was discussed and the honour system for payment. It was requested that members pay at the time of purchase. Social Convenors Report Karla suggests we have a sign up sheet for volunteers as there was difficulty during some tournaments. Tony acknowledged that Karla did a great job co-ordinating the volunteers during the past year. Treasurer’s Report Rob Askin provided the Statement of Revenues and Expenditures. Membership is up and Rosie provided more lessons resulting in an increase in revenue over previous years. The charge of one dollar on the Monday and Tuesday nights helps to cover the cost of tennis balls. Proposal was made to accept the treasurer’s report as read. Jon Grass/Shenah Mochenski Memberships Report Betty-Ann Ehasoo confirmed the increase in membership. There are 196 adult members that include 32 couples and 18 family memberships. 117 junior members There was good early registration and the membership has doubled over the previous year. Tournament Directors Report Mike Ward said the Sunday Social Tournaments were full with all eight courts in play. Club Championship winners; Men’s doubles – Raz Ianculescu and David Van Trump Ladies doubles – Cheryl Dick and Cindy Kindret Mixed doubles – Shea Hewitt and Becky Vink Men’s singles events are yet to be played Mike appreciated the work Rosie and Bryan put in for Ladies and Men’s nights. Thursday nights mixed drop in night was well attended. Wednesday mornings were well attended by Ladies drop in play. Club Pro Report Rosie mentioned that all tournaments held this year made a profit. Ladies night turn out was good, and often 7 courts were filled. Four tournaments were held. The Lakeview Open in May had 70 entrants. The format was changed to Ladies doubles, Men’s doubles and Singles tournaments. The Junior Challenger had about 20 entrants and in June the Rookie tour had 21 entrants. Junior Tournaments are sanctioned this year with Tennis BC. There was a mixed tournament, a first annual, and 16 teams participated. Junior programs had 70 kids taking lessons in an 8 week session in the spring. Summer camps were full. District of West Kelowna Tony said on October 12th the Executive has the opportunity to make a presentation to council. The Council has a draft of a 10 year plan that proposes a pickle ball court where the current ball hockey court is and a plan to resurface the tennis courts. Questions to the membership follow; do you want to see; 1. Covered courts for year round play? There is a void in the valley for covered courts. 2. A tennis bubble or a facility? 3. Would a facility house a gym? There is only one public gym and that is on Webber Road. Bryan asked if there is a five year plan within the ten year plan. The plan is to review the lease and renew it in the fall. John Grass said for the ten year plan there is an obvious lack of space. Rosie said that in the paper today West Kelowna seeks feedback by October 15th and gives the following E-mail address for your comments and concerns. www.districtofwestkelowna.ca At a recent meeting upstairs in the Community Hall many pickle ball members were there, but no support from tennis members. Wayne Van Damme suggested a scripted message be created that each member could use Cheryl Dick suggested that an individual message would be better. Tony requested a show of support for each member to lobby the District of West Kelowna. Bryan Lakusta/Joe Schaich Motion Carried Election of Executive 2010 – 2011 Tony announced that two positions were now vacant as the Social Convenor and Tournament Director have decided to step down. The new executive is listed below. Other Business Jon Grass proposed a motion to raise the price of beverages by 50cents. Joe Schaich seconded. Jon Grass proposed a motion that Table Tennis be available to club members during the winter. The clubhouse will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2 pm. Bryan Lakusta seconded. Motion was made by Tony for $1,000 Capital Expenditures to include the purchase of 2 new nets. Mike Ward/Wayne Harmon Tony made the motion that the meeting be adjourned.
