RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (INSTITUTE OF COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE) JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION Post: Department: Grade: Research Associate UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience Grade 7 £28,839 pa plus £2,781 pa London Allowance Main Purpose of Job The post holder will be employed on a project grant funded by the MRC. The purpose of the grant is to investigate the structural and functional neural correlates of spoken language production. Specifically, the grant looks at recovery and treatment of anomia in chronic aphasic stroke volunteers, including a proof of concept TMS and behavioural treatment trial. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the project, including designing of experiments, subject recruitment, data collection, analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and conference presentations. Further details about the grant can be obtained from Jenny Crinion : j.crinion@ucl.ac.uk Work Relationships The post holder will collaborate with Dr. Jenny Crinion who will be his/her line manager. He/she is expected to be able to work independently, but also as part of a small research team. No direct supervisory responsibilities are involved. However, the post holder may on occasion be asked to help oversee experiments run by students and visiting researchers. Main Duties and Responsibilities To help design, program, and run neuroimaging experiments investigating the neural underpinnings of speech production in healthy and stroke volunteers. To arrange, coordinate, and run experimental sessions. To assist and lead the write up of research results as scientific papers and conference presentations. To assist in the analysis of neuroimaging and behavioural data. Attend and contribute to regular lab meetings To occasionally provide supervision and/or training of students or others as may be required. Carry out any other duties that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager. Skills and Knowledge - Interest in neuroimaging, language and brain plasticity following acquired brain damage and/or cognitive neuroscience (Essential). - Excellent academic record with evidence of independent, creative work (Essential). - Able to work independently and as part of a team (Essential). - Effective written and verbal communication skills (Essential). - Reliable and punctual (Essential). - Commitment to high-quality research and adherence to UCL’s procedures and policies (Essential). - Familiarity with SPM or similar neuroimaging programming (Essential). - Familiarity with Cogent or E-prime programming for experiments (Desirable). - Familiarity with experimental statistics (Desirable).
