JOB DESCRIPTION FORM PAGE 2 OF 4 Consultant – Neonatal Paediatrics – 16-24 BRIEF STATEMENT OF DUTIES 1. Acute management of patients in the neonatal intensive care and special care unit of KEMH and PMH, and postnatal wards at KEMH 2. Contribute to teaching programs of resident medical officers, neonatal registrars and senior registrars/fellows, neonatal nurses and medical students 3. Participate in outreach education and the Statewide Neonatal Network 4. Participate actively in research programs 5. Contribute to neonatal administrative tasks and membership of committees with clinical, academic and/or transport responsibilities at the hospital and state level 6. Review outpatients who have received neonatal care and participate in neonatal follow up programs 7. Liaise with other relevant medical, nursing and allied health staff re patient management 8. Foster the development of a team to provide expert services 9. Supervise and act as a resource for junior medical staff in the assessment of patients, development of care plans, implementation and evaluation of medical care 10. Provide management of both inpatient and outpatient services for neonatal paediatrics 11. Provide an emergency out of hours on call service (including weekends, public holidays and evening shifts) to provide specialist neonatal paediatric services as required 12. Accept responsibility for own learning and professional development through ongoing education and performance review 13. Promote evidence-based practice 14. Participate in Quality Improvement Research Projects 15. Accountable for the safe, efficient and effective use of resources JOB DESCRIPTION FORM PAGE 3 OF 4 Consultant – Neonatal Paediatrics – 16-24 SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualification in medicine registrable by the Medical Board in Western Australia. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or its equivalent professional qualification. Clinical Practice: Expertise in contemporary clinical practice in neonatal medicine. Demonstrated involvement in clinical audit and other quality improvement processes including a commitment to personal professional development. Provision of continuing care in outpatient clinics. Involvement in after hours and on-call weekend cover. Willingness to work on both KEMH and PMH campuses. Management: Experience with the supervision and mentorship of junior medical staff. Demonstrated experience of clinical practice in neonatal intensive care. Ability to manage and to work in a collegial and collaborative relationship with a multidisciplinary team comprising medical, nursing, allied health professional and administrative colleagues. Ability to establish and maintain management protocols, and informative accurate medical records. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with clinicians within a teaching hospital setting and in the wider community. Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with members of the neonatal, paediatric and obstetric communities and general practitioners. Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with referral hospitals and allied services. Research & Audit Evidence of clinical and academic presentations at scientific meetings. Demonstrated proven track record in audit and quality assurance with a commitment and willingness to undertake further quality improvement activities. Teaching: Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching including development of educational programs at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS Proven experience in Neonatal Paediatrics following registration as a specialist and ability to satisfy the requirements of the RACP neonatal/perinatal medicine training committee for advanced training. Academic higher degree: Masters, MD or PhD Advanced training in neonatal subspecialty. International clinical experience in neonatal research and/or training program.
