Job Description Job Title: Head of Postgraduate School of Pathology Department: Oxford Deanery Band: 2PAs (consultant scale) initially on a three year contract Responsible To: Reports to Postgraduate Dean and is professionally accountable to Warden of the Royal College of Pathologists Job Summary To provide strategic leadership for the development of the Postgraduate School of Pathology as an organisation that provides and co-ordinates high quality education and training, leading to fit-for-purpose Pathologists To implement faculty development, appraisal and assessment within the Pathology training To ensure that appropriate monitoring processes are in place in order to advise Oxford Deanery on the quality of posts and programmes To maximise the quality of training and education by working in partnership with other educational bodies including the South Central Strategic Health Authority, Medical Sciences Division (University of Oxford), local Trusts, Royal Colleges (and their faculties), MMC and GMC Key Relationships Postgraduate Dean, Oxford Deanery Associate Deans, Oxford Deanery Postgraduate Schools Development Manager Programme Managers & Project Manager Medical Educators - Oxford Deanery College Deanery Adviser/ Programme Directors / Specialty Representatives Relevant Trust personnel including Clinical Tutors, College Tutors, Educational Supervisors and Postgraduate Education Centre Staff External organisations including Medical Royal Colleges, GMC and MMC as appropriate Key Result Area / Responsibilities Overall delivery of the Pathology training programmes, including delivery and implementation of the curriculum, in accordance with standards set by the GMC and Royal College Ensuring appropriate quality assurance and educational governance of training programmes and learning environments in liaison with the Postgraduate Dean or deputy Supporting and contributing to the selection and recruitment processes of both trainees and educators Head of School Job Description & PS May 2011 Ensuring that the assessment of trainees across all medical training programmes are robust and fair Be responsible for the development and performance of all Programme Directors in the management of cost effective and high quality training programmes Chairing the School Board Developing and implementing strategy, as agreed by the Board Responding to GMC requests for information and ensuring that any GMC recommendations are carried out Providing an Annual Report to the Postgraduate Dean, evidenced by reports to the School Board Attendance at regional and national specialty meetings, as required Representing the Postgraduate School of Pathology nationally as appropriate To contribute to effective communication within the Oxford Deanery as well as with the wider educational network and other stakeholders In keeping with the overall vision of the SHA, to undertake a multiprofessional approach where appropriate Note: this alone is not an exhaustive list of roles and responsibilities and new roles will evolve as the school develops.
