This additional service is for patients who live with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Referrals are made by your GP. The CCG has regular liaison with patient representatives from most of the GP practices therefore you opinions are heard and are greatly valued. As always we are very keen to hear your views so please continue to feedback to the Patient Participation Group (PPG). The group has a representative who is also part of the newly formed North East Hants PPG whose main aim is to represent the views and needs of patients to the NE Hants CCG. Dr Mark Hinton HAYFEVER The hay fever season is upon us again and this brings the usual surge in demand of prescriptions and consultations. At least 1 in 10 people in the UK suffer with hay fever. Typical symptoms are: o Runny or itchy nose o Sneezing o Itchy, watery eyes o Sore throat Occasionally asthma symptoms such as wheezing and breathlessness may get worse. We as a practice strongly believe in self-management for this problem where possible. This then leaves us free to deal with the more difficult cases, but more importantly allows us time to devote to more complicated and serious problems. Over the counter remedies Virtually all remedies and treatments are now available over the counter at pharmacies and supermarkets often at less than half the cost of a prescription for the same quantity (current prescription charge is £7.65) These are usually as efficient in treating symptoms as prescribed medication. So, please think about using an over-the-counter remedy first. DOCTORS IN TRAINING Dr Adris Lemar continues his training with us until August. Dr Dalia Hasan left us in April, but returns in August. Dr Oliver Webber joined us in April and will be here until December. Medical Students/Work Experience Students There will be work experience students/St. George’s Medical students with us at various times. (If you do not wish them to sit in on your consultation with the GP or Nurse, you may ask for them to leave). PRACTICE IMPROVEMENTS The Surgery has invested to improve some of the ancillary areas of the surgery over the last 3 months. The sluice room has had a refurbishment and upgrade and we also have a new clean room.
