CRYONET Site Questionnaire: Mt Logan / Upper Kaskawulsh Site specific metadata: Name of site: Mt Logan / Upper Kaskawulsh Latitude/Longitude/Altitude: 60 42.000’ N, 139 48.000’ W, ~2500 m altitude Landscape type (e.g. arctic coastal, tundra, alpine…): High alpine Onsite technical staff: None All-year round observations y/n: Yes Year established: July 2009 Link to website if available: https://datagarrison.com/users/300034012631040/300034012380040/plots.php Station manager (Email): luke.copland@uottawa.ca Organisation in charge of station: University of Ottawa Other information: The weather station is located on a nunatak at the head of the Kaskawulsh/Hubbard Glaciers, near the centre of the St. Elias Icefield, Yukon Monitoring of the atmosphere: Solid precipitation: Trace gases: Aerosols UV, stratospheric ozone Radiation (longwave, shortwave) Others: Snow cover Physical parameters: Chemical parameters: Others: Glaciers and ice caps Snowfall: Mass balance (measured parameters): Mass balance is being measured at ~4 stakes across the ablation area of the Kaskawulsh Glacier (at ~80 km long, the glacier is too large to maintain a full mass balance network) Ice flow (measured parameters): Ice motion is measured continuously at each of the mass balance stakes via the use of Trimble R7 differential GPS receivers. These receivers record for 24 hrs/day in the summer and 3 hrs/day in the winter. Basal water pressure (measured parameters): Others: Sea ice Mass balance (measured parameters): Meteorology: radiation, air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, air pressure (measured parameters): Snow on ice (measured parameters): Ice chemistry (measured parameters): Others: Permafrost Borehole measurements (measured parameters): Meteorology: radiation, air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, air pressure (measured parameters): Snow on ground (measured parameters): Active layer thickness (measured parameters): GST: Others: Ice sheet Mass balance (measured parameters): Meteorology: radiation, air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, air pressure (measured parameters): Snow on ice (measured parameters): Ice chemistry (measured parameters): Others: Other measurements (hydrological, ecological, oceanographic, etc) Hydrology (measured parameters): Ecology (measured parameters) Oceanography (measured parameters): Other thematic linkages: Linkages to satellite data (describe validation programs, applications of satellite data, etc.) We are working with the Canadian Space Agency SOAR-E program to receive Radarsat-2 data to validate and expand upon our field measurements Participation in international monitoring programmes such as GAW, GTN-G, GTN-P, ….
