RESEARCH ACTIVITES
The main scientific fields of my research activities refer to bronchial asthma and allergic alveolitis. The
research topics, on which I have mostly worked since 1977 in the Pulmonary Department of A.U.Th.,
are:

Inhalation Challenges for the most commonly implicated allergens .

Detection of the most common allergens in our region (mites, pollen grains, fungal spores). I
have also created the Division of Aerobiology of the Pulmonary Department, A.U.Th., thus
founding the unique scientific centre in Greece that informs Greek citizens and all interested
individuals worldwide on the aeroallergens in our country.

Creation of a Division for the diagnosis of interstitial pulmonary diseases. There were applied
methods of detection of special immunoglobulines and of specialized questionnaires, resulting
in the easier diagnosis of allergic alveolitis. I moreover contributed to the creation of the
Division of bronchoalveolear lavage, which is the most modern technique on the diagnosis of
interstitial pulmonary diseases.
I have participated in 10 research programs (3 for the aetiology of asthma and 7 for the investigation of
the activity of new antiasthmatic drugs)
