Length
o Based on discussions and feedback from pilots, suggestion is to keep
lengths informative in this guide. Still we could keep the base standard
definitions and columns of V2.7.1 in place to provide context. At best we
can have fields/components normative that use HL7, SNOMED, LOINC
defined tables where we exactly know what the lengths have to be, and
state that OBX.5 cannot be truncated. I would not recommend that
though given the time constraints. This would have to be done at the field
level as data types are re-used and appropriate data type component
lengths will vary from field to field using it. A future version would attempt
to increase the fields where there is clear consensus on what lengths
should be. If that suggestion is accepted, the proposed resolutions for
the length related

document, indicate that for length/c.length information to use
V2.7.1 as informative only, and add a conformance statement to
OBX.5 that it cannot be truncated (LRI_XX: OBX.5 SHALL NOT

OBR-7 is not later than SPM-17.2, unless a new specimen
was drawn at the testing laboratory. The data type used
must be TS_4
If OBR.8 is valued, SPM-17.2 must be on or after OBR.8
SPM-17.2 must use TS_5 as the data type.
For OBXs reporting observations based on this specimen,
OBX-14 should contain the same value as component 1 of
this field.
