Borland Delphi Installation Notes
Have you purchased a multiple user license agreement for Delphi 7 Pro? Are you experiencing difficulties installing / registering Delphi?
Here is the solution, provided by Borland, that worked for me:
I installed Delphi on Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines. I want my students to roam the computers on the college’s Windows 2000 network using a mandatory profile
(Windows XP). Delphi is not designed as a 'network ready' tool. The main reason for the IDE not to run from a main networked system is that the IDE stores some state information in the BIN file and if one user was to change the setup of the IDE this will change for all users.
When I contacted their support via eu-support@borland.com, I was told to contact the
Borland Sales (http://www.borland.com/company/borland_worldwide.html) to request an educational slip file. This is a file which, when saved to a pre-defined location, allows the bypassing of the need to register the product each time a student wants to use it. The slip file is ALL you need to copy into the Delphi root directory.
1) Install Delphi, make sure it is installed as accessible to all users of the machine.
2) Copy the slip file to "C:\Program Files\Borland\Delphi7" directory, ie. The root directory of where you installed Delphi 7.
If you experience further problems, getting error messages, such as do the following:
1) Create a special NT group of users (you might already have one for these students)
2) edit the registry: give "full control" permissions to the group mentioned in 1) to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\Delphi\7.0 and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Borland\Delphi\7.0 OR it might be another idea to get this full control permission to 1) to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Borland eg. the WHOLE Borland registry key. as the students might want to experiment with localization and or dbexpress or the
Database desktop.
