I will definitely attend the next one" "I thought the bigger writing event was excellent. The assembly was fantastic, hearing segments of other children's stories was enlightening." "I think it is good that parents are invited to these 'bigger writing' events as it helped me understand more." "Thanks for another informative session. I enjoyed seeing the sorts of activities that strengthen hand muscles and encourage writing in creative ways." "I also found the assembly lovely-so nice to see the positive attitudes of the pupils and teaching staff and to hear what different year groups have been doing." A pen licence In a continued effort to drive up the standards in writing, we are working with the children to improve their handwriting. Once their handwriting meets a set of criteria, they are awarded a pen licence! The criteria are: 1. Correct letter formation 2. Joined writing with clear ascenders and descenders 3. No scribbling out 4. Tidy, neat pages - no scruffy edges 5. Sitting correctly at the table to write Sustained success will allow the child to keep their pen! One way that we do this is by rewarding children who make a super effort and as a result make good progress. Another way that we are improving the standard of writing that all our children are capable of is to make sure that they all have clear targets for improvement and can tell us when then have achieved their goal.
