Geologic Time Scale Foldable Project Directions 1. Create 14 flaps by folding 7 pieces of staggered copy paper. Stagger the pieces by approximately 1/2-3/4 inch. Staple twice at the top to hold papers in place. 2. Write the title: Geologic Time Scale on the top flap. Underneath write the definition of the geologic time scale. 3. On the left-hand bottom portion of flap of flap#2, write: Early Earth. On the top of this flap, write a description of Early Earth in your own words. Use pg. 288 as a resource. 4. Label the flaps on the left-hand bottom portion of flap with the period and relevant time period. See #4. Use the same color to label PERIODS within the same ERA. 5. Label the right hand side of the flap (in vertical writing) with the ERA. Be sure to use the colorcoding you used in #4. See #5. 6. On the right hand side of the flap, write a description of this time period. Use your textbook pages 292-293. See #6. Use the back of the flap if you need more room! 7. On the left hand side of the flap, include and illustration or piece of clip art of an example organism. Be sure to use COLOR and to label your picture with the organism’s name! See #7. Include an illustration of 1 organism that lived during this time period. Don’t forget to include the name! DESCRIPTION Invertebrate sea organisms evolve (organisms without a backbone). The seas are filled with sponges, snails, clams, and worms. PALEOZOIC EXAMPLE ORGANISM: Pikaia 7 Include a description of the major events that occurred during this time. Use pgs. 292-293 as a resource. Cambrian: 544-505 mya 4 Include the period and relevant years in the bottom left corner of flap. Label the ERA on the right side edge of the flap. Color code these so that flaps that belong to the same era have the same color label. 5 6 Geologic Time Scale Grading Rubric Criteria Name: _________________ Excellent (1) Needs Improvement (.5) Unacceptable (0) Title: Students includes the title “Geologic Time Scale” See #2.
