Soc 360: Community Dr. Smith List of Urban and Rural Ethnographies for Book Report Below you will find a list of ethnographies and community studies. You will pick a text, read it, and write an analytical book review on the text that summarizes the work and finds links between it and other things we’ve done in the course. Your report should place the author’s study of the community within the context of the course. You will point which social structures and/or processes the ethnography emphasizes as well as where you think the argument falls within the community, lost, found and liberated framework and why. No plagiarism of the text without proper citation will be tolerated; if I discover any problems, you will be asked to correct it before I will grade the paper. Complete citations have been provided. Information on the topic of the text is inside [ ]. Some texts are available at Helm-Cravens, others through interlibrary loan, others will need to be purchased. Attached is an alphabetical list of the readings and where you can get them. My advice is that you pick one that interests you—reading something you do not find interesting will make for a long semester. Ethnographies of US Urban Communities Abu-Lughod, Janet L. 1994.
