Our membership has increased significantly in the last two years, and more chemists are making the AACR Annual Meeting their meeting of choice because of the integration of chemistry and biology into areas such as new molecular targets, proteomics, and underlying mechanisms for development of cancer. For the 2010 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., the CICR Steering Committee has made a special effort to integrate chemistry throughout the program. This year, our Young Chemists Committee, co-chaired by Drs. Danzhou Yang and Erin Prestwich, was also asked to provide input into the Annual Meeting program. We hope that you will plan to attend the 2010 Annual Meeting, attend the sessions organized by CICR, and present your work. I look forward to seeing many of you in Washington. Laurence H. The Newsletter is produced quarterly and contains information on AACR conferences, awards, chemistry news, job openings, and other happenings in the world of chemistry in cancer research. Serving on the Board offers a great opportunity to become more involved in the Working Group, make professional contacts, and stay aware of new developments in the field. If interested, please send your most recent CV and a brief statement as to why you wish to serve on the Editorial Board to cicr@aacr.org. AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research Dr. F. Peter Guengerich from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine received the 2009 AACR th Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research at the 100 Annual Meeting. Dr. Guengerich was honored for his seminal studies on the role of individual human cytochrome P450 in the metabolic activation of carcinogens to intermediates that mutate genes, which stand as a landmark in research on mechanisms and prevention of cancer. Young Chemists Committee The Young Chemists Committee endeavors to promote career development for young chemists committed to the field of cancer research. Eleven new Committee members have been recently selected at all different stages of their careers and representing diverse backgrounds and areas of research. The Committee held a successful mentoring roundtable session at the 100th Annual Meeting 2009 in Denver, CO, and is looking forward to sponsoring more such events. Senior scientists who are eager to guide rising young researchers will be invited to participate in future sessions. We also encourage more young chemists to participate in AACR meetings and we welcome their involvement and suggestions.
