Early Life- James Bruce was born on December 14, 1730. He was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland. When he grew up a little, he started to study law at Edinburgh University. He didn’t grow up to be in the Army although; he was born to be an Explorer. Exploration- James Bruce explored Africa. He discovered the source for the Blue Nile. He also explored the Roman Ruins in North Africa. James Bruce was a good geographer, astronomer, and historian, also knew about medicine. He was a pretty decent artist but always brought a pro with him. Rumor has it that the artist was murdered by hot- headed Bruce himself. His Return- Bruce returned to London in 1774 from Africa. He didn’t like the comments the Portuguese left behind. Lots of people stuck with the thought that the Portuguese found the source for the Nile. After a while the talk about the Nile faded, but then came back in a different way, giving Bruce the credit. Who he was- Bruce was 6ft 4inches. Words to describe him: Big, boastful, large, fighter, courtier, womanizer A.K.A. player, red head, horseman, and a “deadly shot”. His medical skills, pistols, blunderbusses, and winning ways with women kept himself and followers alive. End of his Life- James Bruce sadly died on April 27, 1794. The cause of his death was falling down a flight of stairs, not regaining conscious. Right before he died he was writing a book. Bibliography"Bruce, James (1730-1794)." World Book.
