Script Markers are required to provide comprehensive support for all learners at a distance through robust and constructive feedback. Script Markers must be able to mark a minimum of 5 scripts over a 10 day turn around from receipt to return. The first marking completed will be returned in 5 working days. Main Duties and Responsibilities The Script Marker will have responsibility for the following: 1. Comply fully with the department/College Quality Assurance systems to maintain standards, participate in review and self-assessment activities and attend standardisation meetings whenever possible. 2. To mark completed work and provide comprehensive and constructive written feedback to the learner providing them with the level of support necessary to motivate continuous learning and progress. 3. Provide guidance and advice to the learners during the course in a manner which is supportive and encouraging, providing where necessary a link to the theory in the course materials and practice in the work place. 4. Moderation – all work marked will be quality checked when first joining the department. This level will reduce according to performance/quality feedback which will be provided by the Lead Moderator/subject moderator. Necessary amendments required. These must be returned to the department within 7 days of receipt and take priority over any new marking. 5. Produce and retain accurate feedback for each learner in line with department/College formatting standards/guidelines for future audit purposes which must be stored for 6 months to be awarding body compliant. 6. Contact records – record any verbal/electronic communications work for a learner in accordance with department/College formatting. 7. In addition script markers may be offered additional working hours carrying out induction sessions for learners on to relevant programmes. 8. Also in addition, those script markers with the correct level of competence in agreement with the External Verifier, Internal Verifier and Lead Moderator may be requested to moderate scripts marked by other script markers. They will need to provide constructive feedback in line with the specific Course Guidance notes and within agreed timescales. 9. Attend meetings/training sessions as and when required. 10. Comply with the requirements of health and safety legislation and College regulations. 11. To maintain and update student data as required. 12. All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post, the department and the college Postholder Specification Essential Education & Qualifications Hold relevant qualification in the subject area at Level 3 or above, and/or vocational experience Desirable Level 2 qualification in Health & Safety or ability to achieve within 12 months (Please detail how your experience is relevant for the courses you wish to be considered for marking) Specialist Knowledge & Skills Proven literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2 or equivalent (e.g. O level, GCSE) Current experience in the subject area sector Able to adapt assessment style to suit the learner needs Previous experience of Distance Learning systems Is aware of, and complies with, information security procedures, including confidentiality and data protection at all times Proven organisational and administrative skills Relevant Experience Proven ability to meet a range of deadlines and prioritise work accordingly Proven working knowledge of Microsoft packages, such as Word, Excel Interpersonal & Communication Skills Additional Requirements Able to use a range of communication skills effectively when working with team, manager, college staff, students and employers Have good written communication skills Be able to provide positive written feedback to the learner that is both comprehensive and constructive Proven ability to work using own initiative Evidence of continuous professional development Scriptmarker Variable Hours, fixed term to 31st January 2015 Terms and Conditions of Service Conditions of service will be based on those contained in the Easton & Otley College Support Contract Salary will be at the set scale point SUP10 (pro rata to £17,184 p.a. (£8.91 per hour) and will be paid monthly in arrears, via a timesheet/ claim Hours of work will be various from 0 hours, to meet the demands of the courses and set guidelines. Working from home. The person appointed has the right to take up the option of joining the Local Government Pension Scheme. As a variable hours member of staff, you will need to opt in to the pension scheme. For full-time staff annual leave entitlement will be 33 days rising to 38 days after five full years of service, inclusive of all bank holidays and up to five days which the College may predetermine. New entrants to the service are entitled to annual leave proportionate to the completed calendar months of service in a leave year which runs from September to August. Leave will be taken outside the academic timetable. (With agreement, holiday will be paid alongside the hourly rate on a monthly basis) The person appointed will be subject to a period of probation of 9-months.
