English II Mid-Term Exam Review Your Mid-Term will consist of two parts: 1. 60 % of your exam: The first 100 minutes will be given to you to plan and write an essay. You must plan for at least thirty of those minutes. The planning counts as 20 % and the essay as 40%. 2. 40 % of your exam: The second part of the exam will be testing you on vocabulary, grammar, and archetypes, and literature from this semester. This part will be Scantron. The topic for the prompt will come from the following list. Each class period will have a different topic, so seven of the following topics will be used for the mid-term exam Success, Responsibility, Discipline, Sympathy, Education, Happiness, Diversity, Home, Maturity, Love, Family, Patriotism, Faith, Friendship, Fear, Freedom, Dictatorship, Peace, Integrity, Religion, Authority, Terrorism, Peer Pressure, Compassion, Sportsmanship, Multiculturalism, Tolerance, Truth The following must be included in the essay: All Classes: You must plan your essay for at least thirty minutes before you write. You must use at least one archetype in the essay and use the advanced vocabulary word “archetypal” when you talk about that archetype. You must highlight this archetype when you use it. For example: “Edmond Dantes in the Count of Monte Cristo is a classic example of the archetypal evil figure with a good heart.” You must use an example of a literary piece that you read for English II first semester. You cannot just choose a random work that had nothing to do with this class. You must have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Make sure that you use quotes in your essay, but no more than three of them. They must come from the prompt itself, because that is a requirement of the prompt. All students must include at least three advanced vocabulary words in their essay, using them correctly, and drawing a box around them in the essay when they use them. You must also highlight these vocabulary words when you use them. They won’t count for you if you misspell them or misuse them. Rules for the Cheat Sheet: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. You must use a 3 X 5 index card: the one that I gave you. You can use both sides of the card. Your name must be on the card. You must hand-write the notes on the card—no typing. You cannot tape other layers to the card. You can bring a magnifying glass if you need to read your small writing. You must have your card when you come to class on the day of your exam. You must turn in your card with the exam when you are done.
