ANDREW P. BETSON CAPTAIN, ARMOR, US ARMY COURSE DIRECTOR, DS385 DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY INSTRUCTION WEST POINT, NEW YORK Captain Betson was born an Army Brat at West Point, NY and is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, where he received a BS in Military History. Upon receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant of Armor, Captain Betson was assigned as a Gun Truck Platoon Leader in Battery A, 1st Battalion 76th Field Artillery at Fort Stewart, GA. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, conducting escort missions throughout the Greater Baghdad area. Upon his return, Captain Betson assumed the duty of Tank Platoon Leader 4th Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment and subsequently served as its Executive Officer. With the Tusker Battalion, he continued to serve as Executive Officer of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company and on staff as the Assistant Operations Officer. Captain Betson again deployed to Iraq and assumed command of Company A, 4th Battalion, 64th Armor in Baghdad. His company conducted security operations in Hy Sadiyah in the Rashid District. Following redeployment, Captain Betson assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment. Prior to coming to instruct at West Point, he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Diplomacy from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce to become a course director in the the Department of Military Instruction’s Defense and Strategic Studies Program. Captain Betson’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Maneuver Captains’ Career Course, the Sapper Leader Course, the Sniper Employment Course, and the Basic Parachutist Course. Captain Betson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Sapper Tab, and the German Armed Forces Military Proficiency Badge.
