Medical Vocabulary The following is a list of terms and abbreviations that interpreters working in a health science university will probably encounter. You should recognize the following, and be prepared to accurately and conceptually interpret them for medical students, realizing that the signs that are used in this context will not be the same signs you should choose to use when interpreting for a regular deaf patient. This terminology list is not exhaustive. Consider it a “starter,” onto which you should continuously add new vocabulary.
