Congratulations to Josh Smit of Grade 8 for winning both sets of the recent KZN under 15 Surfing Trials. Congratulations also to Glenwood old boy, Jordy Smith, who became one of only two South Africans in at least eighteen years to make it the final in an ASP World Tour (formerly the ASP World Championship Tour) event when he beat nine-time world champion, Kelly Slater, and Californian wunderkind, Dane Reynolds, on his way to a showdown with former world number two, Taj Burrow, at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks (Australia). Although Jordy lost the final, this is a truly monumental achievement, especially considering the fact that Jordy lost his first round heat and had to fight his way back into the main event via the dreaded second round. This leaves Jordy in second position on the ASP World Tour, perfectly poised for an assault on the coveted world title. Josh lets rip at the KZN Trials. Jordy celebrates a career-best performance on Australia’s Gold Coast.
