Sacred Heart Parish Council Meeting January 4, 2010 President Tom Grogan asked Fr. Donal to open meeting with a prayer at 6:48 p.m. The following Council members, staff and guests were in attendance: Fred Bellock, Anne Borom, Joe Cassidy, Sandra Curtis, Antonio DeLeon, Sue Dressler, David Fowler, Norma Hawkinson, Ron Llewellyn, Steve McCormick, Father Donal Sullivan, Pat Roloff, & Kathy Yoakley. Question of the Week was discussed. Approval of Minutes: The minutes were presented from December 2009. David Fowler moved to accept minutes, 2nd from Sue Dressler with the following corrections; on 2nd page line 3 needs a c added to Dec. 27th, also 6th line, delete, Katrina will bring 1. Commission Reports School Report – Fr. Donal reported: Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated around the diocese Jan. 31st through Feb. 6th. Annunciation School confirmed they are having Open Houses on Sunday, Jan. 31st, 13pm and Thurs. Feb. 4th at 9:30am. Sunday, Jan. 31st, there will representatives from Annunciation School to celebrate 10:30am Mass. Parents who wish to have their kids registered can get more information. Open enrollment begins February 16th. Youth Ministry – See Reading File. Kathy Yoakley passed out more information regarding Juliana Switanek’s mission, with a couple of hand outs also, Juliana will be presenting to the K of C & CCW along with anyone else who wants to attend after an 8 & 10:30am Masses on Jan. 17th.. Kathy has been talking to some college kids about a new program SHACK. They are starting to plan a Young Adult Retreat, similar to the Confirmation Retreat, for young adults 19 to 25yrs. olds. Kathy sees we have some peer leadership that she doesn’t want to go untapped, to include this age group in a program where they can be served. Religious Education – Sandra reported: Live Nativity went very well. Thurs, Fri, Sat, Jan. 7,8,9th Sandra and Kristen will be at a conference in Orlando. Adult Formation – See Reading File Joe Cassidy added the Men’s CRHP retreat is set for Nov. 5th. San Jose Men’s retreat is being held Jan. 19th, Joe is helping with that. Anyone who would like to attend their Candlelight service and write Help letters will be appreciated. Sue stated women’s CRHP hasn’t set a date, but are hoping to start meeting bimonthly. R.C.I.A.- Fr. Donal reported: 2 couples want to join our church & will be starting classes soon. Christian Services – See Reading Files for: The Way Clinic Food Pantry Waste Not Want Not Outreach 1 Knights of Columbus – report by Ron Llewellyn: Knights want to thank all who participated in the tootsie roll drive and the football games. Monies will be going to Annunciation School for scholarships Jan 1st – Gator Bowl Game Jan. 7th – Business Meeting Jan. 31st – Pancake Breakfast Council of Catholic Woman (CCW) – See Reading File Fr. Donal asked if CCW had any complaints regarding the quality of this yrs. poinsettias Stewardship – See Reading File Walter Heath Ministry – Dec. 27th, Steve McCormick & his 2 kids were only participants who represented the Parish Council for coffee & donuts. Liturgy – See Reading File Facilities – No Report Finance – Fr. Donal reported: Budget Meeting was held recently for Sacred Heart, each department submits a budget. President Grogan asked Fr. Donal how has the sacrificial giving been. Fr. Stated it was down slightly, but growth in the parish is still active. A few have moved, but there are approximately 1400 registered families. Finance Committee did get 5 bids for the Parking Lot expansion. Fr. Donal wants to do this project in 2010. Spanish Ministry –Ron Llewellyn read Antonio de Leon’s report: Religious Education/RCIA and English classes will resume Tuesday, Jan. 12th. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will not be held due to mass at 7:30pm, this Friday being a Holy Day. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was a huge success despite the rain, the Anatocha runners arrived with the Silver Rose soaking wet before mass. Everyone enjoyed the mass and reception after. We are sorry to say the winner of the Raffle was not a Parishioner. The Mission Church celebrated the Epiphany with distribution of the angel tree gifts, a Pinata and dinner. Thank you to all who gave to the angel tree. New Business Nominating Committee needs to be set up, we will discuss at next meeting. In 2010, year facilities plan might be the Parking Lot, and Island planning. Old Business Anne Borom suggested the Parking Lot Island Adoption idea form a committee with Anne, Fr.Rene’, and Marsha Zupan. Make up a plan, measure the islands, etc. Discussion was held regarding 5 Yr. plan. Concern regarding future successor to pastor. Tom Grogan suggested we start a small group for this and he would chair the committee. The staff would need to add their input also, for what we already have in place.
