Course Study Module in Israel Courses Available for Registration as Modules during Spring 2013 Registration Sign-up for the trip to Israel now at www.TLCHolylandtours.com/name/lruhenderson-tour.html Course Description This course is an intensive module that provides the opportunity to learn to defend the veracity of the Scriptures from an onsite, contextualized, study of biblical history. The claims of well-known critics, from the Jesus Seminar to the new atheists, will be addressed and answered as students delve into the historical, geographical, linguistic and cultural contexts of the Bible on location in Israel. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: Identify the major critics and their primary objections to the reliability of the Scriptures. Explain and critique the methodological and interpretive presuppositions of these objections. Correlate specific persons & events in the Bible to their rightful geographical locations and historical contexts. Formulate responses to the major criticisms of the Bible based upon the historical, geographical, linguistic, and cultural contexts of the passages in question. Integrate the interpretive principles from this study into an overall apologetic for the Christian worldview. Students may receive three (3) credit hours for this module by registering for this class under one of the following course options. TH 536 Seminar in Apologetics I: Biblical Apologetics An analysis of a particular issue or figure relevant to apologetics including contemporary atheism, the evolution/creation debate, biblical inerrancy, truth and postmodern thought, and others. TH 435 Advanced Apologetics: Biblical Apologetics An in–depth study of a particular area or figure in apologetics that contributes to the overall apologetic task. Special emphasis will be placed upon understanding and countering objections in contemporary academia and culture. NT 477 Seminar in New Testament Studies: Field Study in New Testament Specialized studies offered in New Testament literature, history, current issues, backgrounds, and cultures. OT 477 Seminar in Old Testament Studies: Field Study in Old Testament Specialized studies offered in Old Testament literature, history, current issues, backgrounds, and cultures.
