Flagpole Project (15 points) You will be determining the height of the flagpole using similar triangles. Sunny Day 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Form into groups of two. Each group takes a tape measure. Each group measures the center flagpole’s shadow and records it. Helping and taking turns, each member of the group measures their own shadow and their own height. Record the measurements. Go back into class to complete the report. Cloudy Day 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Form into groups of two. Each person in the group takes a ruler and each group has a tape measure. While outside, hold the ruler at arm’s distance. Back up until the ruler matches up with the height of the center flagpole. Measure the distance from your eye to the ruler and the distance from you to the base of the flagpole. Record the measurements. Go back into class to complete the report. Each person must do their own report using their own measurements and calculations. Each report must contain: 1. Diagram labeling the similar triangles and the distances involved. 2. Ratios including distances involved. 3. At least one well-written paragraph describing your materials, procedure, the similar triangles involved, and the final estimate of the height of the flagpole (in feet and inches), including any possible errors involved.
