Course outline: seminars will be held in Japanese
Each week, participants will;
Enjoy listening, reading and talking about Japanese folk-tales and The Tale of Genji.
Gain further knowledge of language features such as the old alphabetical structure and traditional sayings.
Explore and talk about the cultural background of the stories.
Experience language-related activities such as Kamishibai, Karuta and others.
The main purposes of this course are to experience the spirit of the Heian people - and their descendants - and understand how their traditional culture remains in the hearts of modern
Japanese people. During each lesson, participants will be able to check their understanding of the contents and language by talking in pairs and small groups, led by the teacher. They will also take part in a wide range of activities, tasks and discussions about the contents and the language.
‘Talking Contemporary Japan’ is designed for adult learners interested in updating and refreshing their knowledge about Japan whilst practising their Japanese language skills in a series of evening classes at the Japan Foundation London Language Centre. This term, the course will be taught by
Yoko Udagawa and Hiroko Tanaka, the Japanese Language Advisors based at the JFLLC.
Whilst providing a genuine chance to look behind some of Japan’s contemporary cultural issues, the course will also provide you with an ideal opportunity to improve all four skills of Japanese.
