Assessment will be based on the identification, description and explanation of a
selection of the following:

pitch and rhythm notation

key signatures up to two sharps and two flats, major and minor keys

performance directions, eg articulation, dynamics, common terms and signs

clefs - treble, bass, alto, percussion

time signatures 2

compositional devices - motif or short theme, repetition, imitation, sequence,
variation

characteristics of orchestration (instrumentation), including transposing
instruments

harmony - diatonic chords, using Roman numerals (eg I, VI) or jazz/rock
terminology (eg D, Bm), in root position and keys up to two sharps and two flats

texture - monophony, homophony, polyphony.

Assessment will consist of excerpts from musical scores, each of no more than 32 bars
in length.
Quality Assurance
1
Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications
Authority before they can register credits from assessment against achievement
standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against
achievement standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those
achievement standards.
