Notice of Financial Aid Warning Due to Grade Point Average or Unit Deficiency
Schools participating in the Title IV Student Financial Assistance Programs are required to establish an
academic standard that measures a student’s progress toward an educational goal: certificate, degree or
transfer. Rancho Santiago Community College District’s standard includes the following elements:
1) A time frame in which the student’s goal must be completed,
2) An evaluation of units completed, and
3) An evaluation of grade point average.
All students are expected to complete at least 66.5% of units attempted, and maintain a cumulative Grade
Point Average of 2.0 (C average) or higher.
An evaluation of your satisfactory academic progress has been performed at the end of Spring 2014 semester. As a
result, our records indicate that you have been placed on warning for failing to meet the required financial aid
satisfactory academic progress. With a warning status, you are eligible to continue receiving financial aid for
the next semester you enroll.
If your cumulative Satisfactory Academic Progress does not meet the minimum standards at the end of the next semester
you enroll, you will be disqualified for financial aid programs. Disqualified students may remain eligible to attend Rancho
Santiago Community College District and may remain eligible for the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver (BOGW).
If you need assistance, below are our recommendations:
1. Make an appointment with a counselor for academic advisement regarding the classes you need to be
enrolled in and develop an academic plan to complete your educational goal.
2. Visit the Learning Center for tutoring services. Enroll only in the number of classes you can successfully
complete with at least a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0.
3. You may need to retake classes in which you received an “F” or “D” grade. Once you retake a class,
complete a Petition for Academic Renewal form with the Admissions Office for the new grade to replace
the “F” or “D” grade. A higher grade in those classes will help raise your cumulative GPA. Discuss this
possibility of Academic Renewal with your academic counselor.
If you have any questions, please contact our office at (714)564-6242.
Sincerely,
