PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Research Staff Member, Seagate Technology, Pittsburgh, PA
11/01~ present
R & D for new generation hard disk drives. Develop a electro-thermo-magnetomechanical model for a promising advanced magnetic data storage technology - Heat
Assisted Magnetic Recording, sponsored by U.S. National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST)
Research Associate, Nanotribology Laboratory for Information Storage and MEMS/NEMS, OSU
09/98~ 06/01
Developed a 3-D numerical model to simulate the sliding contact of layered elastic/plastic
solids with random rough surfaces. The results allow the optimization of layer properties
to reduce friction, stiction, and wear. This model applies to information storage system
and MEMS / NEMS. Sponsored by U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
01/99~ 12/99
Measured surface roughness of magnetic tape and cartridge components with AFM,
WYKO, and Tencor; performed numerical simulation and experimental verification on
the static and dynamic tribological behavior between tape and bearing surfaces of
cartridge in Micro /Nano scale. Sponsored by Storage Technology Inc. and Imation Corp.
09/97~ 09/98
Developed a 3-D numerical model to simulate the static and dynamics contact of surfaces
with multi-modal roughness distributions. The model applies to surface finishing and
coating deposition processes to obtain an optimum bimodal roughness distribution.
Research Associate, Mechanical Engineering Department, Shanghai Jiao Tong University
09/96-09/97
Performed solid modeling and rapid prototyping on a boost mold with UniGraphics,
sponsored by Shanghai General Motor Co.
02/96-09/97
