PROCEDURE FOR THE MEAURING OF DOGS
1
Measurements are to be taken by 2 ANKC Agility Judges or by approved officials at measuring times made
by appointment only with the official Measuring person.

Only height measurements taken by the ANKC Agility Judges or by approved officials, shall be accepted
for the official SACA height card register.

The approved ANKC accepted SV measuring device must be used.

The measuring shall take place on a surface which is hard, flat, level and non-slip such as concrete

Only dogs having attained an age of 16 months shall be eligible for the measurement.

The handler is required to stand beside or in front of the dog.

The dog shall stand normally, all four legs plumb (perpendicular to the ground) and rear pasterns
perpendicular.
8.
The dog's neck and head are to be in a normal or natural position.

The handler may only touch the dog where requested by the measurer to settle the dog during its
forward or lateral movement due to excitability, anxiety or apprehension of a new experience.

Where necessary the progress with measuring the dog may be distracted or have its eyes covered.

The height of withers shall be taken by measuring as near to vertical as possible from the ground
surface adjacent to the rear of the dogs front feet, to the highest point of the withers, using an
approved SV measuring stick only, where:
a.
The highest point of the withers is defined at the highest point of the shoulder blade, or scapular
b.
The base bar of the stick shall be placed flat on a hard, level surface, adjacent to the front feet.
c.
The calibrated bar of the SV stick shall be plumb and in line with the vertical plane of the ulna
(foreleg).
d.
The adjustable bar of the SV stick shall rest firmly without undue pressure on the highest point of
the withers (Shoulder blade).
12.
Three measurements within 1cm (100mm) shall be taken i.e. discarding any extreme measurements,
with the average of these being calculated and recorded as the measurement.

Details required for the Height Card registration form are:a.
The name of the Dog (excluding titles); Breed; Dogs SACA Registration Number; Date of Birth;
Sex (Desexing certificate required for spayed bitches); Name of owner.
Where all owners names cannot be fitted in the space provided then show the first one listed on the
Certificate of Registration.
14.
The Height Card cannot be issued unless the required details have been completed.
15.
Owners have the right to have their dog re-measured at any time, providing a $5 fee is paid to cover
the cost of the paperwork involved.
