Committee Activities and Updates The GWIB CyberSecurity Industry Initiative Steering Committee conducted its first organizational meeting on November 15, 2010, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Charles I. Ecker Business Training Center, in Columbia. The meeting, chaired and facilitated by GWIB Board Members Larry Letow and Bel Leong-Hong, was attended by approximately 34 industry, government and education leaders. A preliminary industry profile, prepared by GWIB Staff, was introduced, and served as the foundation for the committee’s discussions and future industry report. The committee brainstormed workforce challenges and skills needed to prepare a pipeline of workers that will meet the demands of the industry. Secretary Sanchez concluded the meeting by thanking the committee for their commitment, time and support, and empowering the members of the committee for the work that lies ahead. Outcomes and/or Next Steps GWIB Staff compiled notes from the meeting, as well as input received from participants that offered additional material to enhance the report. Meeting minutes were e-mailed to all of the participants for final input. Once input is received, the material will be added to the preliminary profile to update staff’s findings. The committee will identify and convene another meeting of CyberSecurity industry representatives in an effort to capture additional information regarding the workforce challenges facing the industry and skills needed to meet future demand. At the next meeting, GWIB’s education partners will present to the committee a gap analysis emphasizing graduation rates versus the actual industry demand. The education partners will also showcase the different programs currently being taught throughout the State which satisfy the educational requirements of the industry.
