Tecate Mission School 3rd Grade Class
Sister Jeri Label brought her 3rd grade class to San Felipe for the third straight year. Tecate Mission runs a school for
Mexican Children but is located on the US side of the border. It was a pleasure for us to welcome back several of the same
Moms from last year and a special treat in their being able to recruit the same bus driver, Brother Sergio, to make the trip
more enjoyable for all.
Their activities included hosting a hamburger barbeque for the two Christian rehabilitation
centers of San Felipe, Nueva Canción (New Song) and Fundación de Apoya de la Mujer Adicta
(FAMA) (Foundation of Help for Addicted Women). The day’s activities included listening to
testimonies by the directors and members of the centers of how their lives were effected by drug
and alcohol use. The children put on a special musical program for the centers. And there was
time for a bit of soccer as well.
On Sunday the class did a 25 minute musical presentation at the San Felipe Mission for the
English speaking community.
Of course, there was time for the beach and shopping which is a part of any trip to San Felipe.
The school stopped off in San Matias to encourage and to present a program in the church “La Filadelfia” with Pastor
Sebastian. We look forward to next years visit.
Ladrillera Mission Church moves forward. We give God the thanks and the glory for
providing a car for Pastor Alejandro and his family. The car will allow them dependable
transportation, from an isolated location, to markets and school for the children. Pastor Alejandro
is serving the Lord in the Mexicali area known as Ladrillera, where the majority of the people
make their living making and selling brick. One of the goals of their ministry is to raise the
educational level of the people and help them obtain the needed paperwork to enter a normal job
market.
God Answers Prayer
Last year a team from North Carolina came to Tecate to do construction on a church and to do a Vacation
Bible School at the same location, Iglesia Émaus. Among the joys of the trip was to get to know Karely
Gabriela Vega Bajo. A girl of 7 year old. Karely was getting ready to start school but has not been able
to hear almost since birth. The doctors were not sure what caused the problem but recently had
determined that apparatuses would correct the problem. In th mean time Mom, Josefina, had been
learning sign language and teaching her daughter.
I had the pleasure of being the courier to deliver the money for the purchase of the devices and pay for
the assorted medical expenses. The team from North Carolina had collected enough money to cover
everything plus probably a McDonald’s Happy Meal. Mom and I hugged through the tears as her prayers
for her daughter to be able to hear were being realized. ¡¡Rejoice in the Lord with me for his faithfulness!!
Summer Visitor
It has been a pleasure to have Logan Knauss from the Centro Cristiano Church in Manson, WA with us
for the last couple of weeks. Logan brought her musical gifts and her willingness to serve the Mexican
people. Logan, not a Spanish speaker, was able to use her love of music to co-minister in the town of
Ensenada with the Worship team from the Unidos en Cristo church in San Felipe. The pastors listening
could not believe that she was not fluent in Spanish.
Throughout the week in Ensenada she helped with children’s outreaches at three locations and ministered
through music at four locations.
It was a pleasure to have her as part of the ministry team, even if only for a moment of time. May God Bless her and her
future in serving Him.
Logan is the second member of the Knauss family we have had the pleasure of ministering with. Her brother Cody came
down a few years ago to share his love of the Lord as well.
Ensenada Summer Outreach
99 Plus 1 Ministries invited the worship team from Iglesia Unidos en Cristo
(United in Christ Church) to help with an evangelism trip to Ensenada. The team
was joined by Logan Knauss from Chelan, WA and Luis Zapein from the Nueva
Canción Rehabilitation Center. From the 99 Plus 1 team was Daniel Roldan, John
and Bonnie Gilbert, and Rogelio Reyes Saucedo. The group was able to conduct
outreaches to children and adults in the week long trip. Children’s programs were
conducted at the Monte Elim, Torre Fuerte, and the Casa de Oracion - Torre Fuerte
churches. Evening musical outreaches were conducted at the same three churches
as well as the Puerta del Cielos church. The team was able to encourage the
Ensenada churches as well as bless them with their spiritual gifting. The team
lived in a camp style setting and did very well with the limited water supply out of
5 gallon buckets.
During the course of the week we were invited to attend and help provide music for the baptism of 19 new believer that had
completed their new member classes at the various churches. Please visit the gallery (Ensenada Outreach) to some of the
photos of the events.
Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage Update.
The structure for the first floor of the first building is complete. On 7 June the cement
ceiling was poured. This portion of the complex will be two stories. The next step will
be to connect the septic system in order to move a caretaker on site. Then we will be
starting to save for the floor of the next building. The slab will be 27 feet X 73 feet.
This building and one to follow will house the children, their bathrooms and a room for
interim staffing.
