Cabled deployment of 5-beam Dopplers for wave/turbulence measurements Ann Gargett, Institute of Ocean Sciences & University of Victoria Rapidly sampled beam data from a properly aligned 5-beam VADCP can be used to calculate three-dimensional turbulent velocity fields as well as more reliable directional surface wave spectra than those calculated from standard 4beam ADCP data. I will document these claims using data from VADCPs on cabled observatories elsewhere, then examine some data from Folger Pinnacle, suggesting improvements in deployment of the present ADCP and arguing for future deployment of a VADCP.
