BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF WICHITA FALLS
YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM
THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB CODE
I believe in God and the right to worship according to my own Faith and Religion.
I believe in America and the American way of life, in the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
I believe in FAIR PLAY, HONESTY, AND SPORTSMANSHIP.
I believe in my Boys & Girls Club, which stands for these things.
YOUTH BASKETBALL COACH'S
CODE OF ETHICS
1.
2.
3.
4.
Show good sportsmanship at all times.
Build in each player the ideals of sportsmanship, honesty, and fair play -- on and off the court.
Show respect for other coaches, officials, team members, and spectators.
Abide by the SPIRIT (not necessary the LETTER) of the rules, regulations, and policies of the Youth
Basketball Program. To gain or attempt to gain any unfair advantage by circumventing the rules,
or by applying interpretations of the rules that are contrary to the INTENT of those rules, violates
the philosophies of the Youth Basketball Program. Such attempts directly impede the mission of
the Boys & Girls Clubs, and are therefore unethical.
5. Teach each player to abide by the rules of the game. Deliberately disregarding the rules or teaching
players to intentionally violate the rules is indefensible. The teaching of feigning injury,
interference, or intentionally attempting to injure another player, will break down rather than aid in
the building of the character of players.
6. Uninvited scouting at an opponent's practice by any coach not directly associated with that team, or by
his or her agents, is considered unethical.
Intentional violation of these ethical standards brands a coach unfit to be associated with the Boys & Girls
Clubs Youth Basketball League.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To provide the youth of this area, regardless of race, color, creed, or economic position, the opportunity to
participate in controlled athletic competition; to instill the belief in fair play and good conduct, and
promote sportsmanship at all times; to provide opportunities for positive development; to promote a
common interest and tolerance among youth; to encourage adults to behave in an exemplary manner when
supervising youth; and to keep the welfare of youth foremost and free from any adult compulsion for
power or glory.

player's suspension from the League, subject to a ruling by the Boys & Girls Club Directors.
a. The player's actual participation in any of those games will not be a determining factor in the assessment of penalties.
b. Because it is the responsibility of all coaches and players to assure that eligibility is maintained, unintentionally
playing an ineligible player because of ignorance about his or her status will not necessarily protect the player
or coach from penalty.

a. Burden of proof will rest with the protesting person or persons.
2. Information pertaining to player eligibility must be filed in writing, at the earliest possible time.

next Boys & Girls Club workday.
a. If the protest is found to be valid, the guilty team will be removed from the playoffs, and replaced by the next
appropriate team.
b. If this protest is filed after that time, no action will be taken, since the replacement will not have enough time to
properly prepare for the game(s).
*** It is the obligation of all persons to bring any information concerning ineligibility of a player, or violation of the rules,
to the attention of the Athletic Director at the earliest possible time.
Section D - Method of Filing Grievances
1. Arguments or grievances by coaches that arise during the season must be filed IN WRITING with the Athletic Director. If
accepted, the protesting coach and those affected by the protest will be notified to appear before the Athletic Director at
his earliest convenience.

1. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls defines an "open wound" as a cut, scratch, scrape, laceration, or any other
injury that results in, has resulted in, or may result in, bleeding from the injury site or any other part of the
body.
2. Any player who enters the court with an open wound or sustains an open wound while on the court, will be
removed from the game by the coaches of that player's team at the direction of the games officials, Gym
Representative, or Athletic Director. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. A player removed from the game because of an open wound may not return to the game until any bleeding has been
stopped, the wound has been cleaned, treated, and bandaged, and no blood is leaking or soaking through the
bandage.
a. Wounds may be bandaged in an effort to insure that they will not bleed again, but the bandaging of a
wound, does not, in and of itself, make it a closed wound. The game officials, Gym Representative,
and/or Athletic Director will have final judgment over whether or not a wound is sufficiently closed
to allow that player to return to the game.
Section B: Unconsciousness
1. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls defines "unconsciousness" to be any period of time when a player,
because of an injury, disease, or other condition, is not aware of his or her current surroundings or situation,
or cannot respond to verbal or visual stimuli.
2. Any player who sustains an injury while on the court that renders him unconscious, no matter how briefly will be
removed from the game by the coaches of that player's team at the direction of the game officials, Gym
Representative, or Athletic Director, whether or not the player is actually unconscious at the time of that
removal. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. A player who has been removed from a game because of unconsciousness will not be allowed to return to that or
any other game until he or she presents a release, in writing, from a medical doctor to the Head Coach of his
or her team.
a. The Head Coach will forward the release to the Athletic Director, who will permanently attach it to the
player's contract release.
4. There is no exception to this requirement.
Section C: Injury Management
1. Since the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls has full responsibility for management players on the court during
games, the Athletic Director, or his designate, will have full and complete control over the dispensation of a
player who has been injured during a game.
a. This control can be superseded by recommendation from trained medical personnel (a medical doctor or
registered nurse), or by the player's parent(s), never by coaches, other players, fans, or other
interested parties.
ARTICLE XIII - ACADEMIC ALL-CITY TEAMS
Section A: Philosophy
1. While the Boys & Girls Clubs Youth Basketball Program promotes physical development, it is our belief that
mental development is no less important for the well-rounded athlete. By rewarding not only physical
achievement, but also academic excellence, the program can meet the overall goal of any Boys & Girls Clubs
9
program -- to help children develop into responsible and productive adults.

each player will be made by the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls.
2. There will be a separate team for each of the five leagues.
3. There will be NO LIMIT to the number of players that can be placed on the Academic All-City Team.
