INTRODUCTION:
Amani Friends church is located in Mabonde shopping centre, just a few
kilometres from kitale Kiminini highway. It is within the locality of kitale county
formerly, Trans nzoia District and in Rift Valley Province.
According to the spiritual survey that had been conducted earlier, it revealed
that the in habitants are always in conflicts ranging from the church to the IDP
issue which has threatened to divide the people of this area further. The Irony
of it all is that the church name Amani is a word that seeks out peace for all.
This area is in habited by various inhabitants ranging from Luhyias, who are the
main tribe here, Kikuyu, Kisii, Kallenjin, Luo and other smaller tribes hence
making it a cosmopolitan region housing almost all the 42 tribes .
The fact that this place is a cosmopolitan region has diversified the issue of
unity for a long time, unfortunately, spiritually, each inhabitant in this area
decides to join a church that is run by people from his or her tribe. Some of
these churches are Holy Spirit, Apostolic, PAG Salvation Army,
PEFA, ACK, Jesus is Lord Full Gospel, Dini ya Msambwa, Jehovah’s witness,
Muslims, PCEA, Catholic, Christian Community Church, Akorino among others
this has resulted to total spiritual decline and hence there was a need for the
church in Nairobi to organise for the way it can revive and bring back Gods’
people to his kingdom.
This mission’s main theme was derived from the book of acts 2: 38 which quotes;
Repent and be baptized, and receive Holy Spirit. In deed as the theme suggests,
God’s mercy was upon the people of Mabonde as most of them repented and
received the Holy Spirit that we left them with as God’s servants.
It is also reported that many people have been killed in this area through night
attacks by armed gangs. According to the residents, those who are killed are
always robbed of their valuable properties and the fact that people live so far a
part something that has led to people not attending to a church service.
On the eve of 19th April, a delegation of 11 brothers and sisters travelled for
the kitale mission and arrived safely at exactly 5.28 pm to a rousing reception
by their hosts Friends church Amani local church.
On this very day, the delegation from Nairobi’s Friends church Satellite
interacted freely with the locals and after the breakfast, the group converged
at the hall for repentance prayers and ground sanctification.
3
Powerful prayers were conducted and there after there was a brief meeting at
the small church for other prayers before brethrens broke for various home
visitations.
The Main speaker Pastor Adson Odeyo was prayed for by the host Pastor Ruth
Kakai.
See the below report on daily basis for all the four days beginning Wednesday
to Sunday.
Wednesday 20th April 2011
Members were divided into two main groups with one being led by Evangelist
Sarah and the other by Evangelist Emi, both from the local church (Amani).
The crusade that followed immediately after visitation saw at least ten people
getting saved and accepting Jesus Christ as their personal saviour.
Pastor Adson Odeyo who was the main speaker introduced the main theme and
set the ball rolling as Ebenezer worshippers led the gathering to praise and then
worship. The speaker was presided over by Host pastor Ruth Kakai It was
interesting to see majority of the area people joining us in the open air market
which had never been seen in that area. Indeed it was the first of its kind.
The crusade ended at a round 6.30 PM as people got time to relax and interact
with others for socialization. As usual, there were small meetings for the
Nairobians to evaluate progress of the crusade.
Thursday 21st April 2011
As usual, the house to house visitation continued in the morning hours of the
day. This time round, the delegates were mixed to accommodate each person in
each group. As reported, the visitation was successful. See visitation report on
the other page.
Afternoon session was always set a side for the crusade which by this day had
started catching the attention of many a round Mabonde area. It was good to
see the field to be full of people who had come to listen to what the people from
Nairobi had to offer.
The main speaker led the crusade as the main speaker as Ebenezer were in
charge of all the singing and worshiping, this time a round with a very big
improvement from the previous day’s performance.
Many people underwent deliverance and this part was administered by Pastor
Josphat Omura; Eva. Seth Shitemi and the main speaker himself Pastor Adson
Odeyo.
From the judgement of things by many, this day looked more successful than the
first day.
4
In all the days, we held short discussions and deliberated upon the day’s
progress, challenges, and solutions where necessary.
Friday 22nd April 2011
On this day, all the Easter service. It was wonderful service and God’s favour
was upon us. It had been reported that some members from this monthly
meeting level were opposed to this mission but when we stepped there, majority
of the old men repented and agreed to join the others at the crusade.
Surprisingly, even church leaders also repented.
Ebenezer worshippers ministered in terms of praise and worship, then our main
speaker took over the pulpit, he spoke on the day of crussiffication of Jesus
Christ and its significance to the people especially to those of Kambi miwa who
were opposed to the church growth.
He also talked of the founder of the Quaker church who prayed and quaked until
he was released from jail. He challenged the old to embrace good discipline to
their young ones and also give room to change in the church as traditions had led
to the decline of the Quaker church in Kenya, because of our faith.
People returned to their residence as they took lunch and prepared for the
crusade.
It started at 3.30 and ended at 6.30pm. At this time, many church members of
Kambi Miwa, the mother church to Amani Local Church were aware of the
mission and they all joined us at the crusade immediately after the Easter
service at the church.
The crusade ended successfully with a blessing of rainfall which began slightly a
few minutes after the end of the crusade.
After the crusade we held a Kesha at the Local church Amani which was indeed
successful as many of the attendants were the locals who wanted to witness the
new rebirth of Friends church in Mabonde.
The Kesha took the whole night and this was a plat form where the local people
got their time to interact with the missionaries from Nairobi in terms of talent
of singing, praises and worship.
Though this Kesha was marred by frequent cut outs of electricity power which
was our main source of electricity, it ended successfully and people were happy
about since it was a new thing here.

Saturday 23rd April 2011
Being very busy day here, our delegation from Nairobi and our hosts made up
the last efforts to visit the houses of the members on special requests. These
are members who had serious sick cases where our missionaries could not reach.
Immediately after visitation on special requests, the delegation returned safely
for lunch before embarking on the crusade. People from all walks in Mabonde and
Kambi miwa area joined us in the crusade.
The Saturday crusade crowned everything with a large crowd in attendance and
many getting saved and accepting Jesus Christ as their saviour. Also note that
on this day, very delegate issues were prayed for instance there is a boy who
was brought and he is believed to have been bewitched by the family members.
The boy could not get seated through out the crusade and it took the brethrens
almost 2 hours to get control of him and finally God restored her through our
prayers; the boy was able to speak, and even sit down. Glory is to God!!!
The crusade this time ended at 7.pm as brethrens went to have supper and a
brief meeting as usual to discuss on the progress of the mission so far. We
crowned with a word of encouragement and a worship service before we retired
to bed.
Sunday 24th April, 2011
It was a church service as usual and all the village meetings under Kambi Miwa
Monthly meeting were to converge at Amani local church to crown the mission
that had been at their door steps for the past one week.
The attendance was approximately 400 at the church service and many
testimonies were said at that very last day of our stay there. It ended at
around 1pm as we ate lunch and immediately staged our last crusade at Mabonde
ground.
The crusade was very brief as few praises and worships were sung, and then the
main speaker spoke for only 15 minutes as he prayed for peace, unity travelling
mercies and other needs. He also prayed for prosperity for our hosts and
blessed them as we finished the mission that had taken us a whole week to at
Mabonde area of Kitale County.
Visitation Report
6
During our stay at Amani in Mabonde area of Kambi miwa monthly meeting, we
made all the efforts and the power that the lord had given us to conduct house
to house visitations. This, as we found was one of the ways that helped us revive
the broken hearted souls and fish new hearts to the church.
We divided all the brethrens into three groups with each being given its sphere
of visitation. And from all the visitations that were conducted in Wednesday,
Thursday and Saturday. Approximately over 100 houses were visited by the
group from Nairobi’s Friends Church Satellite and our hosts Amani Local Church.
SUMMARY
1. 80% of these houses that we visited were all from one tribe, mainly
Kikuyu, and then the pokot; something that really attracted our
attention. And in this regard, we were encouraged to lure these tribes to
our church and disapprove many who have that notion that Quaker church
belongs to only Luhyias.
2. We received at least 10 new members who agreed to join Amani friend
church from then. And majority of these members were from Kikuyu and
Pokot communities. We thank God for that.
3. A new church, Amani Friends Church received the new members in one
heart and welcomed them officially. It will now be a new look Amani
friends church.
4. Last but not least, there were special cases where people had various
needs and requested that our team take prayers to their houses. We
responded and these are the people who were once church members but
left on their way. These people promised to come back to church as new
creatures in Christ. Others had serious problems and we prayed and trust
that God will heal them.
5. Finally, from these visitations, most people had cases of insecurity where
by many people had been killed by thugs in the previous days. We could
find a mother whose husband was killed by armed thugs or a father
whose wife and either child were attacked and killed by armed thugs. We
stood by these brothers and sisters in prayers and trusted that God will
provide security to them.
CHALLENGES THAT WE FACED IN THIS MISSION
1. Many needs that arose and needed immediate action which involved
finances. This caused us financial constraints hence a deficit
2. Power supply. Electricity could go off every time something that caused
us to stop for some time and put on the generator hence consuming more
time.
3. People live far a part from each other something that made house to
house visitation difficult to perform.
7
4. Many people here live in poverty and witch craft is also a major set back
which has reduced development rate in the area.
5. During our Kesha, we suffered a blow from the electricity pluck out
something that threatened the security of the delegates and all the
people who had attended that over night prayers. It forced us to use the
reserved Generator which was expensive due to high fuel prices
CONCLUSION
This mission taught us several issues and as a result, we were able to catch up
with many of these issues as they arose. Though there were a few challenges
here and there, we really thank God that the mission was all successful as our
main objective there was to revive the broken hearted and bring forth new fish
to the lord’s church; and that is exactly what we in fact did.
In terms of host, we can say that God through the brethrens of Amani had
prepared a place for us, and indeed a wonderful place. We really appreciate the
good work done by our host and we have no regret to say that we were treated
equally well until the end of the mission.
In terms of Equipments and Public Address system as a whole, we did not score
very many marks but we can say that God used the brethrens of Amani and we
finally got at least something better than what we had at the first day.
Generally the equipments were fair than null.
Though we did not notice any, we believe that our brothers and sisters behaved
well to their best level in all the days that we were in the missionary work in
Amani. And we really thank God for that.
Generally, the mission was accomplished successfully
RECOMMENDATIONS
We noticed that a number of issues which we recommend that they be
implemented or be shaped in order for us to have successful missions in the near
future.
1. Our Public Address and music system is really wanting and we recommend
that we acquire a new and modern system that will lure many youth to the
church and also in missions.
2. There is a need to help our rural churches acquire such systems if they
want to retain the youth in the church; remember the church depends on
youth and if there are no youth in the church, we are at a danger of
closing those churches in the future.
3. The usage of Luhyia language in the Quaker church has mired the efforts
of evangelism to other tribes in the country; as a result, the Quaker
church has remained a Luhyia’s affair. This should stop immediately and
instead use the two applicable national and official languages with a
8
translator, then embark on evangelism in those areas which doesn’t have a
Quaker concentration.
4. Future missions should not only be taken to western and north rift
regions of Kenya, we should look for a possibility of arranging for a
mission in other areas like eastern and central or North eastern
provinces, we need to think big on the above areas.
5. We commend the church members for offering to sponsor this mission
fully without the interference of the main account of the church.
In future, we recommend that this spirit should continue so that we give the
main church room to deliberate on the ways of buying other church
equipments, and may be chip in only when we are at a stand still. So the
mission outreach will continue depending on the church members and other
well wishers to fundraise the future missions.
6. We also recommend that we have at least one mission in every year and
arrangements to be made early in order to avoid the last minute rush for
funds and other things.
7. Finally, we should have an appointed mission outreach commission which
will last for three years to facilitate easy planning and proper
documentation of all the mission outreach files. This will enable us to be
consistent instead of having different committees each year, and even
handing over should be done in a consistent manner.
