WELD Atlantis is a Dual Degree Business/Technology program
where you earn a European Bachelors degree after 3 years of
college and an American Bachelors degree after 4 years.
European students have an option of completing either a BS in a
Business area at Western Illinois University in Macomb, or a BA
in Information Technology at DePaul University in Chicago.

Internet technology provides the underlying pathways for distributing information and
facilitating commerce. Skills in the use of technology supported information systems will

How will an Information Technology degree complement my studies in International
Marketing?
All facets of marketing are actively moving toward incorporation of information
technologies. Lets explore this using a traditional marketing model:
 Product. Product design, in a great many fields, takes place today using CAD
(computer-aided design) software following web-supported marketing research.
Production design employs CASE (computer-aided systems engineering) software,
workflow software, and SCM (supply channel management) software.
 Pricing. CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software and techniques are
making it possible to market products to individual customers. Retail chains have
been experimenting with personalized pricing (both discounts and markups) to
shape consumer purchasing behaviors. Famous case studies of IT use to model
pricing include Pricline.Com’s implementation of a name-your-price online
purchasing model, and eBay’s use of IT to support Peer to Peer online auctioning.
 Promotion. Advertising is moving to the web, and mobile devices as IT enables
focused narrow-casting rather than more expensive broadcasting of ads.
Experiments have begun on Second Life toward virtual advertising. Grocery store
loyalty discount cards enable focused individual marketing.
 Placement. New distribution channels are emerging. Computer-based SCM and
radio frequency identification (RFID) tags enable more effective warehousing and
distribution of product.
It is already – today – impossible to be an effective marketer without deep knowledge of the
acronyms used above. Your marketing training has not presented you with the skill set to
interact with the technologists who will design and support these technology-based
marketing tools. The IT degree at DePaul will.
How will an Information Technology degree complement my studies in International
finance?
Can I handle the technology classes at DePaul?
The classes we will place you in at DePaul are designed for beginning technologists.
There is no specific IT knowledge anticipated in the non-prerequisite courses you will take.
While we make more sophisticated computer programming courses available to you, they
are purely optional – not courses we expect you to take unless you have a particular
interest in that technology.
What will employers think of this combination of degrees?
You will bring a combination of skills to the job market that may be unique.

International Marketing or International Finance awarded from one of the top
business schools in Sweden.1
 You will hold a technology degree from a leading College of Information Technology

degrees in different primary languages.

Our program at DePaul provides structured activities to ensure that you learn the city and
its people.
What resources does DePaul have for me?
Your degree program is housed at the School of Computer Science, Information Systems
and Telecommunications (CTI), but the college’s name is a bit of an anachronism. Today
CTI is the largest school of Information Technology and Digital Media in the United States.
We have over 4000 students studying among 15 undergraduate and X graduate degrees.
In spite of the size, you won’t lose your individuality at CTI as you will be assigned to the
Director of the WELD Atlantis program as your personal faculty advisor; you will work
directly with DePaul’s study abroad office, and you will engage in special activities
designed for WELD Atlantis students. You will have the opportunity to join clubs and
organizations at CTI that meet your personal interests
And the large size has very specific benefits for you. First, it permits us to offer a wider
variety of courses than any other school can offer. If there is a specific niche of technology
of interest to you, we probably have a course in it. Second, it provide us resources to stock
our computer labs with up to date hardware loaded with an extensive software suite. In
addition, we have license agreements in place providing you with many useful Microsoft
and other software licenses for your personal computer.
What courses will I take at DePaul?
Every student will have an individual schedule sculpted based on his/her previous
coursework and specific International Marketing / International Finance interests. You will
have completed your business coursework at Linkoping; your DePaul coursework will focus
on two areas for your American degree.
1. Liberal Studies (Gen Ed) coursework that rounds out an American college degree;
2. Information Technology coursework that provides a major area focus.
