Erwin High Career Academy Advocate
JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary: Teacher Salary + 6.3-11.7% Supplement - Certified
Reports to: Principal/Director of Career-Technical Education
Job Goal: To coordinate student activities in the Erwin High School Career Academy that help students progress
towards graduation and make a smooth transition from education to work or post-secondary education
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifying for license requires:
1. A valid teacher’s license or counseling license.
2. One year of industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor within the past
five years. This can be school experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Facilitates Erwin High School Career Academy.
2.
Identifies potential students for Career Academy by collaborating with Erwin Middle School and
Graduation Initiative staff.
3.
Maintains a thorough awareness of support systems and agencies within Western North Carolina that may
be accessed by at-risk students and their families.
4.
Establishes a direct line of communication through collaborative efforts with counselors, social workers,
student response team leaders, family specialists, psychologists, behavioral therapists, and administrators
within Buncombe County Schools.
5.
Involves parents in all aspects of Career Academy.
6.
Serves as an advisor, advocate, and academic support teacher for students.
7.
Facilitates assigning of mentors.
8.
Identifies appropriate area businesses and arranges for a Job Shadowing experience for students in his/her
area of interest.
9.
Monitors and keeps records on student attendance, grades, schedules, and discipline record during the year
and follows up with parent contact.
10.
Assists with scheduling of Career Academy students and monitors progress.
11.
Other duties assigned
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
EVALUATION:
Eleven Months
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on
evaluation of certified personnel.
